Not done too bad for himself if that comes off

Occasional reminder that Hurst swapped him for Nsiala.

I don't completely blame Hurst tbf, there was some serious neglect from ME at that time, hopeless running of our football club.

Hurst was clearly told by ME that there was no budget to improve the squad, but he would get a % of any sales out.

First decent offer that came in, Hurst & ME took it.

Well, swapped Webster for Nsiala plus £3m, which might have played well with Marcus Evans. I don't remember an outcry when we sold Webster as although he was clearly a good footballer, he's had 2 hit & miss seasons as Town thanks to injury. While he played 44 games for Bristol City the next season (funny, that) & his first season at Brighton was good, he has been injured a fair time in the last 2 seasons.

That's not really how it happened. Hurst had been here only a couple of days when the offer came in for Webster, who decided he wanted to make the move, so not really that Hurst decided he didn't want him or anything along those lines.

Bizarre all round. Bristol City were seen as a smaller club than us in the Championship.

Isn't that roughly how long it took Waghorn to decide he wanted no part of the Hurst era?

I know, I was being a bit silly, though my point about ME's poor running of the club does stand.

I assume this will happen if Forfana deal doesn't come off for Chelsea.

Webster would be £40m+ you'd assume

For me we underpriced him at the time, Brizzle essentially bought Webster with the proceeds from the sale of Aiden Flint from memory

Indeed, Bristol City sold Aden Flint to Boro for a fee believed to be around an eye-watering £7m. A good bit of business from Mark Ashton!

It was something like £20 rising to £25 so assume he's ticked off a few add ons with lots of appearances and staying up etc

Am I right in saying that could be a decent chunk for Town if it goes through?

Looks like Brighton could make £25m profit on him, lets assume Bristol City would be in line for 15% of that (£3.75m) and we would take 15% of that as it's all profit. £500k+ boost potentially. Perhaps more if he sells for more than £45m or so.

Hard to see how these add-ons work when the club to whom we sell a player sells him with add-ons as well.

Basically every pound Bristol City get in relation Adam Webster going forwards we are due a %age off, if Brighton stick a sell on in and Chelsea sell him to Real Madrid for £100m in a few years we'd find more money trickle down

It was during the phase when the mad Brexiteer from Hargreaves Landsdown, who had just been floated on the Stock Exchange, was trying to buy success for them. If you want to know why he might not be throwing the money around quite so much then Google Hargreaves Landsdown Neil Woodford legal action.

There is a trickle down effect from sell on clauses if the fee is large enough, and assuming every club in the chain inserted a sell on clause.

Brighton will pay some profit down to Bristol, who will then pay some on to us, and we will prob pay some down to Pompey.

Well, the market value of HL has fallen from £11.2bn to £4.2bn so Stephen Lansdown is worth a little less than he was, but he's still supposed to be worth £1.8bn or so. HL was floated as long ago as 2007 & Lansdown has sold shares from time to time. He was throwing money at Bristol & they lost a staggering £38m in their last financial year.

Chelsea's transfer business a year ago looks crazy now. They sold Tomori, now they're in need of a centre-back; they got rid of Abraham now they need a striker.
