Next manager likely to be Dyche, Allardyce, Pulis, T-Rex, Stegosaurus or some other dinosaur.

Something wrong at the club you suspect, just hasn't worked for him and he is a decent manager. They've had some good managers recently and nobody seems to be able to turn the tide.

Stoke supporting mate (who is the most biased fan you will ever meet) blames the EFL for not allowing the Coates family to spend mega-bucks.

Said Stoke mate has been banging the drum for Farke - but I think he is reluctant to live in England again away from his family (they didn't move to Norfolk with him when he was there).

Might want to try a young'un.

Michael Carrick, or even John Terry?

They don't take kindly to passing the ball in Stoke, so that would rule Carrick out.

Terry and a penchant for the up and at 'em approach might be more suitable?

Let’s hope KMac doesn’t want to move back up north.

At this point lower mid-table probably about what their budget affords them? Parachute payments will have run out a couple of seasons ago.

Only a wee bit further north than Norwich to be fair, also it's a dump.

How does someone go from getting sacked at Norwich to managing Borussia Mönchengladbach?

Watford's slightly eccentric Summer pick aside, I think you need a promotion on your CV to seriously interest a Championship side. On top of that McKenna would be an expensive option relative to any other League One boss.

Questionable appeal to McKenna career progression wise. He'd inherit a middling Championship squad with a middling budget a week before deadline day. A potential promotion from League One looks better than a competent stabilisation job in the Championship (probably Stoke's current ceiling). I don't imagine Stoke would offer much of a pay rise either.

In fairness, I would wager very few footballers actually live where their club is if it's generally perceived to be a dump.

There's many in the football industry that live a good hour or two from their club.

Lots of nice countryside in Staffordshire. Short drive from the Cheshire footballer belt...

Loads of Stoke players live in Cheshire footballer territory, I saw Ashley Williams and his kids in Altrincham once when he was there. Presumably he's somewhere like Alderley Edge.

Indeed.

I went to Staffs Uni in the mid-90s, and Stoke didn't got a lot going for it then, and probably less now.
That said, the locals were generally friendly enough and we had a great time there as students.

But Stoke-on-Trent has a geographical benefit that few other places do - an hour or so at most from Birmingham (which is an even bigger dump), Manchester, Liverpool, Derby and Nottingham.

Crouch used to live in Alderley Edge as well. Lot of the United and City players live around there as well given it's proximity to Manchester.

And a certain Jon Walters, when he was there. Apparently his child/ren went to the same school as a mate's child.

For context though, the late great Sir Stanley Matthews returned to live in Stoke-on-Trent in his twilight years, proclaiming it to be the best place on earth.

Quite, and lots of pretty villages dotted around the county and Lichfield under an hour away.

People are a bit too quick to dismiss entire areas based on their own limited exposure.

Saying that, I've not been into Stoke so my opinion is based on the pretty villages (and Lichfield)!
