It's been discussed elsewhere, but I believe a lot of it will depend on precisely how much the establishment has learned from the reaction to the passing and mourning of Prince Philip.

If they still believe that the nation, to a man, will be in absolute bits, and want to follow the 'it's still the 1950s' model, then I wouldn't be surprised to see scheduled fixtures cancelled.

If they've learned from the feedback from Philip, I'd hope that there'd be a more relaxed approach, allowing people and organisations to make their own judgement calls.

They would. And I'd guess all football whilst the official mourning lasts. 10 days would encompass next weekend's fixtures too.

The establishment will demand everyone to respect it and close all forms of entertainment.

It will have been planned well in advance of Prince Philip passing and I very much doubt any reaction to that would make one jot of difference to the planned protocol for the Queen.

Not to mention the fact Philip wasn't our head of state, a not insignificant difference.

So we've got a West End Theatre show tomorrow night, ITFC v Cambridge on Saturday, Comedy Night on Monday night, ITFC v Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, travelling to Bristol on Thursday for a funeral on Friday, then another show in London on Sunday 18th, which all fall within the 10 day period being spoken of.

How many of those are likely to be cancelled/postponed?

I see what you're saying, problem then is it becomes some great big 'virtue signalling' (I hate that term) exercise where if someone/some organisation doesn't shut down, they get dog's abuse for not shutting down, and at the same time some other organisation will shut down and they'll get the same abuse for doing that. Basically whatever happens, a tonne of people will moan about it one way or the other.

I really hope not, but I fear it will,

I have huge respect for the Queen, my late Aunt used to work for her and purely in longevity terms I find it staggering to think that there are youngsters today who may live well into the 22nd century who will remember a monarch whose first Prime Minister was Winston Churchill.

However, I don't see why the enjoyment of millions of people who have never met, whose lives are completely unaffected by her and many of whom object to her and her family's status should be forsaken, especially after all we missed for so long a couple of years ago.

A minute's silence, even two, flags at half-mast, black armbands and all that, but the complete cancelling of everyday life for a lady who was nearly a hundred and reached her natural end is - IMHO - completely OTT.

On a related theme, I was on a skiing trip in Bulgaria in 1984 when Soviet leader Andropov died. As Bulgaria was culturally close to the Soviet Union, there was a period of mourning, with sombre music on the radio, and our last night party was cancelled. By a very bizarre coincidence, a similar thing happened on my skiing trip to Bulgaria the following year when Soviet leader Chernenko died, to be replaced in due course by Gorbachev. To avoid any further repetition, I never went on a skiing trip to Bulgaria again, and Gorbachev went on to survive until a couple of weeks ago.

Gotta be honest, I think cancelling everything wouldn't be the right response, though I suspect it is what will happen.

I am saying that as someone who would broadly describe myself as anti monarchy though - like a lot of people I have no issue with the queen, but the other dickheads can all do one.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
