I wonder how many will watch the world cup 22:15 - Nov 9 with 4189 viewsBondiBlue

Usually the club season has finished and there's no other football on. I'm not sure i'll have the time or focus to watch england, australia and ipswich. Maybe fans of prem clubs who are having a break.

Especially in the group stages, there’s barely a single interesting game in the first week

I for one won't be watching any games The world cup should not be played mid season or in Qatar.

Well that's the other question, how many will boycott?

Depends if England are winning I suspect. If they get out of the group stage feigned indifference will fall away as quickly as autumn leaves

As much as i am planning to ignore it, i can't imagine choosing not to watch england in a world cup final. Or semi...or quarter if it's germany...or if we get australia at any stage...etc

Me too.

What kind of world do we want to live in?

We have to decide what our principles are and stick to them.

I’m not the least bit interested and certainly don’t agree with holding the World Cup there, now - but in truth I’ll no doubt have some of the games on, especially after the group stages.

This.

We have this kind of 'who cares?' build up every tournament and then once it starts people get hooked. Some will boycott it but I suspect many who are loudly claiming they won't watch it will watch much more than they will ever admit to.

It will be interesting to see the viewing figures. I predict the knockout stages will have record viewing figures.

I won't be watching. I think it's a bit of a blessing to be in League One at this particular moment and have other footballing distractions because if you can show that what made this world cup happen undermines what you love about football by not watching it, this is a powerful message.

Don't get this at all. It's a World Cup, one of the greatest competitions in all of sport. The football is exactly the same.

I don't think it's as much about 'who cares' this time but about perhaps who doesn't care.

Normally I would watch as much of a WC as I can, this time I intend to try not to, it will be hard and I will cave in at times, particularly if England do well, but I think this WC is wrong and immoral in a number of ways and while me watching less probably won't affect things it's all I can practically do to show that.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Shy World Cup watchers are the new shy Tories.

The irony isn’t lost on me that Qatari state owned news propaganda Chanel is regularly linked on here.

As Groucho Marx once said, “ Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.”

Well said! All these people letting others know they aren't going to watch are just trying to make a statement. I will watch as many matches as possible- its football! This is often a really depressing time of year and to have England involved in Live Sport is great......im not ignoring the really bad points about this WC but its happening and I'm just going to enjoy the ride.

Personally think the quality of top end club football, is of a higher standard than most international sides can offer. And has been for some time.
I used to enjoy the international tournaments as a kid. When it was the only chance to watch World class overseas players kicking a ball.
Nowadays, we can see them every day, at the click of a mouse. So, as much as I'll watch the odd WC match, if I'm near a telly and I've got a spare couple of hours. I'm not as excited about these tournaments as I used to be.
Be nice to see a youngster burst onto the scene, from any nation. That's always exciting. But it just harks back to seeing "the unknown". Which, of course, we get at club level, too.
I'll keep an eye and an ear out for anything spectacular happening. And probably watch the highlights.
But I won't be planning my time around any live games. There's no need to these days. You can watch the games in your own time, whenever it suits you. (Once you know they are worth watching).
And this particular WC, has ripped a lot of tradition, from the original format, imo.
With the current excitement around our own club. I have to be honest , and say, that I'm more interested in watching a 2 minute McKenna interview.

I'm sure there's an element of that but note the almost unique circumstances this time round.

I'll probably end up watching but if I don't I won't be making a loud noise about it, nor will I sneer at anyone who does shout about their principles, in this case.

I definitely agree it shouldn't be played in Qatar for all of the obvious reasons - it's ridiculous, sad and disgusting.

BUT, I've got to say I don't know why people are objecting to the timing. Yes, it would be better at the end of the season, but for other countries it is the end of their season!

To say it shouldn't be played now because our domestic league is in full swing seems extremely self-important. Some leagues are always playing when the World Cup is on - what makes us special?! It's fairer than usual, if anything.

FIFA have refused Denmark permission from wearing shirts that say "Pro-human rights" just in training.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63590339

This WC can go swivel, an utter farce.

Still time for right minded nations to say balls to this and boycott it. Won't happen, money talks end of the day. such a shame.
