Monetise that 29k crowd by getting £15 per person of drink and food out of them… and an enduring venue to world/European cups, England games and big premier/European nights Hugely successful franchise in London

Passionately agree with this. I hope we go up and the larger away followings (and home for that matter) spread their wings into the towns pubs, restaurants & hotels etc. I always make a conscious effort to with my friends & family. I also much prefer drinking in a nice pub vs. the fan park set ups anyway.

Apart from the permanent structures doesn't the FanZone already do that? Big bar, several food options, etc We've had fixtures with record numbers in the Fanzone prematch and still the pubs have been heaving. Suspect even if they did build a mini-Box park that many would still go to their favourite boozer on the way to the ground.

Yeah, as an non-Town bit of riff raff it seems my duty to put a few quid in the local businesses. Do the same wherever I go if possible. Certainly made exploring Glasgow this weekend better, rather than sticking to the hotel bar exclusively and whatnot like some did. I think the club could get local businesses to bid for spots in the fanzone to run the bars, put on food stalls etc on a rota if they did expand it to compete. But that still has an impact on the places who aren't big enough to do more than regular business.

I agree. However, the club do a woeful job of maximising revenue per punter pre and post match. Getting to your seat is hard atm let alone a pint!

It’s a tough one, though. You have 26k customers for about four hours just three times a month. And for two of those hours they’re in their seats not buying anything.

Yes that's true - I was thinking mainly about the home fans which must be where the vast majority of the money comes from anyway.

Sort of. I'd argue that the fanzone is more of a family thing, which most pubs aren't, plus a boxpark is very food and restaurant focussed, which the fanzone isn't. I'd also add that the boxpark could only make financial sense if it was busy several days a week, every week, which again would be a killer for the rest of town, if such a market was even there for it anyway. I can see the appeal - boxparks tend to have an interesting and varied offering, and tend not to just be full of all the generic chains - but I just don't think it quite works for this situation.

Two sets of fans engaged in various containers in a confined space drinking Stella in a testosterone environment - not a good scenario for a football club to be responsible for Would be superb idea if everyone could control themselves and behave but we all know it'd only take a few idiots Best letting the authorities police those outside the club environment IMHO

Everywhere I go there seem to be one of these food market places - if it can work in Macclesfield, why not Ipswich/Portman Road? Remarkable how busy/poplar they seem given the food prices! Local restaurants/breweries wouldn’t suffer loss of business if they had an outlet in the venue, and the generic chains can mostly ake the hit, often aiming for a different clientele. This is from a non local, so feel free to tell me why I’m wrong!

Ashton's points about doing all of this in conjunction with other stakeholders is relevant here I think. If the council are planning on building some leisure facilities on the car park then it needs to fit in with that and the Box Park type of development could fit well - even if it's on a much smaller scale than Wembley.

In reality though it is up to other businesses to make themselves more attractive to ensure they can still attract customers - and up to BoxPark/AN Other to try and fight for the same customers. I think something big at the ground would be great more generally for the town to drag people into it outside of matchdays, and investment usually brings more investment into towns so I'd be all for it

The big clubs do it on a different scale. Various and proper bars with loads of staff and pre poured beer, hospitality options that you can buy without emailing the club, packages that include a hotel stay. The club are miles behind on this stuff.

The idea is that you have an axis of Waterfront- Cardinal Park -Boxpark all within a 10 minute walk of eachother, I actually think it would be great, for everyone. It will bring in more investment in all areas. Lets be honest, the social side of the Town centre is dead, far nicer walking along the waterfront and that area than through the Town centre.

I guess we might need extra ground capacity and the sort of success at the top level to really make it work though? You see tens of thousands of foreigners daytripping at United and City are catching up every week, but beyond individuals and families our next step up is the Fortuna fans or Scandis bringing over triple figures once or twice isn't it? Is there a hotel that the club could work with to block book out rooms as a sort of intermediate step? I've never looked at staying in Ipswich itself.

Why doesn’t the club open a BoxPark type venue on the Staples/Gym site? on 08:50 - Apr 14 with 1921 views | Simonds92 | I would have it as a venue for gigs if there was enough space in that section, or move the fanzone so that a venue could be built there. Not sure if anyone's been to the Ricoh in their exhibition hall or whatever it is but went to go see catfish there a few years ago and it was really good! 10000 capacity I think. Would be great to not have to travel to London, Brum, Sheffield or Manchester to go and see live music and i would imagine it would give us a decent revenue stream.

I have thought for a long time that Ipswich is ripe for a music venue of a couple of thousand, or even something like the Manchester Academy. The town could host a decent size conference centre too (Civic Drive?)
