The rattling on twitter will be off the charts. That said, not a fan of this congratulatory back patting stuff until we’ve achieved something.

Surely it would depend on the opposition and the manner of their wins. The other presenter said he thought Town at home was the best league one team ever or something like that. He specified at home though. SB

Nah, that would be the team who’s accrued the most points. That’s not necessarily the best team depending on your definition of ‘best’ or ‘highest level’. Depends whether you mean footballing team or a team able to scrap out points. There’s also the temporal element too. It’s why opposition managers say we’re the best team they’ve played even when we’re not top. In that moment we probably were. And then we screwup occasionally which drags our points total down a bit.

Ali Maxwell on us: just tweeted this out on 20:29 - Apr 17 with 4041 views | clive_baker | To be honest I can’t think of too many better. That season Brighton and Southampton were top 2 was good, they were excellent sides for L1. Southampton went on to get back to back promotions, coming 2nd in the championship the following season and slapping us 2-5 at Portman Road. Brighton had a good 1st season at championship level too. I think we’re of a similar ilk tbh in terms of our preparedness to step up a level. A small sample but I think the FA cup games against Rotherham and Burnley (x2) are probably testament to that. We’ve achieved a lot but equally we’ve achieved feck all at the moment. Need to finish in the top 2, being a good team doesn’t count for a lot without getting promoted. COYB.

I interpreted it that he thinks that we are currently playing at the highest level that he has seen in league one. Which if you look at our performances and playing style over the last dozen or so games is probably spot on. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Indeed. We are playing some wonderful football and haven't been all that far off it all season. However, in terms of achievement, consistently winning games is what gets a club to a higher level. It is more than choice of phraseology that I am not comfortable with. Many teams can have an outstanding performance in them. Successful teams relentlessly win matches regardless of the manner (which we are doing at the moment and will get us promoted provided we continue to).

They reeled off the home performances and realistically nobody has been winning at home by those margins - they said it never happened in any league. Perhaps go have a listen, be it right or wrong they did elaborate. SB

I think it's pretty clear that if we had the settled side we have now for the season we would probably set a new points record.

Wrexham have had 6x5 goal wins, 1x6 goal win and 1x7. Quite a few 4 goals wins too. Most at home, although not all. So I doubt we’ll be close to any all-league records, unless they were only talking about EFL.

It seems an odd and extraordinary claim. Arsenal went unbeaten all season, some leagues the top team dominates it every year. Burnley this season have a better home record than us. Fulham got over 100 points in this division when they were last in it.

Well they only cover Championship, L1 and L2 so I would guess their comment was in that context. They didn't mention any specific records - more the level of control we have at home. It was also specifically in the context of L1 teams historically. Probably best to take it up with them :). SB [Post edited 17 Apr 2023 21:40]

We've only been this good since our January signings, so no.

To be fair, I just listened to it and they were full of compliments for Plymouth. Backing them to stay ahead of Sheff Wed and Barnsley.

Always remember that Southampton game. Thought it was going to be an easyish 3 points, with them having been League 1 the season prior. And then they completely outclassed us with some breathtaking football. Seem to remember LaLana and Lambert both getting a brace? Don't think we're at that level yet, but we're definitely showing glimpses of that kind of football. Where players seem to have a sixth sense as to where team mates are. And intricate passing movements resulting in the opposition chasing shadows. Of course it could all go tits up, but if we can avoid injuries to key players, I really can see us 'doing a Southampton'.

They battered us didn't they. One of those where you come away thinking 'fair play, they're just miles better in every department'. I remember it being a good team but I've just reminded myself of their line up, when you look at it they certainly had some upwardly mobile players. Fonte went on to play 200 odd times in the Premier League, Jack Cork did too, Schneiderlin was at Man United a few years later and he was only on the bench that night! Lallana was head and shoulders above, Lambert too, both of them going on to play for Liverpool and England. Agree, we're not at that level yet. Nuts to think they had all those players in League 1 (plus Oxlade-Chamberlain) and still only finished 2nd. Of course those players matured and weren't finished articles in L1. Maybe Lord Broadhead will be tearing it up at Liverpool in a few years haha.

Yeah their side was crazy good. Best performance by an away team I've seen at Portman Road. Broadhead does look like he's got potential to be a (lower table) premiership player. Although think sometimes the key is clicking with other players. Which he's certainly done here.
