That George Hirst is the number one priority for signings. If its a no from Leicester early on we move on quickly rather than drag it out like last season.

I think we might be slightly more professional now than chasing a target all summer and then not having a plan B. We're also offering more than £3 and a Chomp these days.

Truly impaired.

Yes. A proper No 9 made such a difference and agreed - it shouldn’t be left to drag on. One of the things about a club structure and a recruitment team is that they’ll have identified their targets, hopefully.

While I'm sure he's one of our targets he may not be number 1. He was probably at the top end of who we might have signed when we we were in League One but there will be players in reach now who would never have come to League One.

I'd be more than happy if he signed on a permanent but also wouldn't be surprised if someone even better came in.

They said they’d identified their targets last year but it still dragged on with them chasing Hirst……

We’ll see…….

Agree we should not let it drag. I'm equally sure we know if a deal is possible already and if that is dependent on Leicester City's divisional status.

yes because they'd identified him but couldn't get him until January...not much they could have done about that as Hirst understandably chose a shot in the league above over us...this time we are in that league and with serious momentum

Could be a little signpost tonight if Leicester lose...which I hope they dont. If they stay up we will have a better chance of signing George.

It's difficult to judge.

Are we going to stable champ side. Or are we going straight for top 6 attempt. If the latter is our squad good enough? Not sure

We've had a great run recently...but. Two games we missed 1 of our 'star' players and we drew both games..

Is hirst a top 6 champ striker. Is freddie?

Is Burns good enough against champ fullbacks?

It's either gonna be KM feels the squad is fine.
Or we all become shocked as 5/6- first teamers get replaced for even higher quality.

a niche perspective

Leicester 2-0 down

If they go down I'd guess Hirst's wages also go down so that might help us if they don't fancy him. Otherwise if they stay up I could see another loan if they don't want to sell.

Watching Millwall v Blackburn. We are better than both those teams already. We press higher and faster, we have better movement, passing accuracy at least as good, but I reckon we make more incisive passes, and we close down when out of possession quicker. We are gonna be good for top 6.

I think our first choice XI when in form are good enough to compete st the top end of the Championship. The worry for me is the drop off in quality when the likes of Morsy, Chaplin, Broadhead aren't playing.

Didn’t realise Oli Burke was on loan at Milwall on loan from Werder Bremen. Would be good completion for Burns

I’m not so sure on that, we look good against league 1 sides but the champ is significant jump.

I actually think Broadhead made a bigger difference than Hirst did. However, we can't rely on just Ladapo so Hirst or someone similar has to be a priority. Similarly Luongo as the drop-off when he and/or Morsy is missing would be significant.

I think we will probably target a first team regular in each of number 9, CM, CB and GK. This would then strengthen in depth as someone from the current first team becomes the level of our squad back-up.

I am also confident we already have a team capable of staying in the Championship and we will improve the players we already have.

A Hirst type player, but it doesn't have to be Hirst, imo.

I'm reasonably confident that we'll get him if we want him.

If we don't, it'll be because McK has identified a higher priority Forward.

Certainly, I wouldn't want to mount a strong Champ campaign with Ladapo as our preferred starting spearhead. Fair play for getting as many as he has done, but I don't feel he offers enough to the team, in terms of the press and work rate.

....he's done really well for us.

But I don't think he should be our "ceiling" when it comes to a centre forward.

I wouldn't be too concerned if we do end up with him, but he should by no means be our main target.

Wouldn't be surprised to see 2 new forwards, with Ladapo as a rotation/back up.. I've championed Freddy all season. But when Hirst went off injured yesterday , brings home how light we are in no9's of the ilk that KM likes....
Think Freddy could end up in same situation as a few others that have done well this season. As we strengthen, they'll get pushed down the order.. Nothing against their efforts and contributions. But its obvious, that if we are going down the same rout as we did in L1, well be looking for players that can step up further than Championship level..Imo

Who do you think we should be aiming for as a main target and at what kind of price range?

Worth bearing in mind that Leicester thought he was good enough to tie down with a fairly large contract and I believe I read that Blackburn's purchase clause was many millions (possibly 5m?). Leicester getting relegation may change the context somewhat of course.

Well I beg to differ. I think the fitness levels of our players and the pace we play at is nothing to do with the opposition being L1. We just play at a really high intensity. And you only have to look at the games against Rotherham and Burnley, as well as against the best teams in L1, to see the evidence. 2 or 3 additions (hopefully Hirst or someone at least as good) and we will be right in the mix.

....I haven't done the research, I'll leave that to our recruitment department.

I expect we could pay a couple of million for a centre forward, of course price is no guarantee of quality, so I wouldn't get too hung up on how much we spend.

It could be £3m or it could be nothing.

There are going to be more additions (and importantly improvements) to a number of positions, some of which will surprise our fanbase.

I'm fairly confident we'll be able to get Hirst if Leicester stay up. Hence why I really want them to stay up!
