Its like last season all over again. Unfancied costal town beginning with p in first and a league 'giant' in second.

Good omens!

Preston is about as coastal as Sudbury, but it's a good analogy regardless.

EDIT - annoyingly close to the coast, Preston.

I thought you were a touch harsh on the geography!

Im going to add a league giant, heavily tipped to win the division and play in blue and white, in second.

I've had a squint at Wikipedia and it looks like you have another eleven miles to travel along the Ribble before you get to the Irish Sea, so about as close to the coast as Ipswich is along the Orwell. I should know exactly as I have been on a yacht along the Ribble from Preston but I joined the crew at about one o'clock in the morning and just crawled into a bunk and fell asleep.

Another interesting bit from Wikipedia about the Ribble 'The Ribble begins at the confluence of the Gayle Beck and Batty Wife Beck...'

I’ll fall on my sword for you with this … I too thought ehh oop (east coast, I know) I had no idea Preston was that far outside Manc and that close to the sea and I’m from up there … there’s even a town with the same surname as mine nearby

Close to the coast but still not a coastal team.

About as coastal as Ipswich probably fairer than Sudbury.

Leicester are this season's Wednesday and will be giving it the big un when they are 8 clear of us, Preston are the Plymouth that won't go away and we'll go on a mental run post February after a stupid loss to Stoke in the January fog.

Nailed on.

We are third now not second ...oh!

Five points clear of 4th is quite nice, though.

There are docks in Preston and the river is tidal so as close to the coast as Ipswich is.

We maybe third but we are 5 points clear of fourth.

It’s an incredibly impressive start not least when you look at how Wednesday and Plymouth are fairing with the transition. We’re such a compact unit when defending and so expansive on the break it bodes well for a top 6 finish.

7 games in with a 5 pt cushion on 4th place is beyond what anyone would have predicted. Take a mad 15 minute spell out against Leeds and the gap would be even wider.

It isn't decided in October but you can certainly be out of it/given yourself a real mountain to climb in October. There's a few fancied teams that you'd expect to pick up their form that are already 8+ points behind us. In a league that is so even and anyone can beat anyone, that isn't easy to make up.

I’m hoping it’s a repeat of last season where it becomes a three horse race early doors and by the time we meet the budgies, we’re so far ahead it’s a free hit!

The good thing is that already, just seven games in, every team below us will need to win two more matches than Ipswich going forwards to guarantee overtaking Town. Beginnings of a cushion.

And, by my reckoning, we are already halfway to the points needed to avoid relegation...

As delighted as I was to see that Nodge lost last night, kind of wish they had drawn and kept us in 2nd spot.

But yes for now Preston are the new Plymouth - however well Town do they just keep winning themselves and sitting 2/3 points above.
