United have probably told his representatives that they’ll either stick with EtH or go with another, Tuchel, Poch etc but not KM right now. Chelsea moved on to Maresca which is a done deal. Therefore came down to a stay at Town with improved terms or go to Brighton decision. Reckon we’ve managed to fend them off with a bumper contract, maybe some sort of United release clause, assurances re signings etc. And he’s staying put. Thoughts?

Yeah, sounds about right to me.... on 16:40 - May 27 with 4081 views | Bloots | ...the more it went on, the more I thought it was Utd or stay, and I couldn't really see him getting the Utd gig. Not at this stage anyway. We'll get another year out of him, which is probably the best we can expect. Happy with that outcome, if true, move on and prep for our attempt to get into Europe.

... and was persuaded he is better waiting until it comes up after he has gained some Premier League and European competition experience with us. Which means we have a season and a bit to persuade him we are a better proposition moving forward than United will be at that stage! I love how a lot of people seem to have jumped at assumptions that it was McKenna's agents putting out the news of interest in him and that it is the clubs deciding not to offer him anything and not McKenna ruling himself out. Whatever the realities, if he stays with us that's the most important thing.

Kompany being lined up for the Bayern Munich job despite Burnley's record in 2023/24 may have convinced him that staying here won't necessarily be a death sentence for his career should we struggle.

My read of it on 16:50 - May 27 with 3754 views | BloomBlue | My thoughts are none of the teams spoke with him directly/officially, they only spoke with his representatives. Not saying his reps didn't relay the details back to KM. But as a family man and the upheaval moving would do he took time (as KM always does) to analyse the options. He realises that he can stay here and even if we are relegated it won't impact his chances at a top club, see Kompany. But like everyone he has to pay the bills, and the Owners/Ashton have played a blinder and offered a big increase in wages. KM decides, 'I'm loved here, I have great owners who let me have full control on transfer (that won't happened and the other 3), if I keep the team in the Prem my star will be shining so bright I can go to any club". Finally and most importantly he'll be thinking before the Coventry game I had the pleasure of a quick chat with the fine upstanding gentleman, Bloomblue. Hence he's staying | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Still not really pleased with how his team handled this by deliberately putting us in the middle of a media circus but glad it seems to be drawing to a close.

My read of it on 16:59 - May 27 with 3571 views | bluefunk | I can’t see the advantage in going to Brighton, who, while they are obviously ahead of us currently, have benefited hugely from Chelsea’s transfer largesse which is unlikely to be repeated. Evan Ferguson will be off, and while that will bring in good money, it merely ramps up the pressure to replace him. They’ve only delivered 16 points in the last 16 games, so maybe they don’t have the squad depth and with expectations having been raised, it will be difficult to make a step up to challenge for the top 6, especially as relationships have to be established. Contrast that with Town, where avoiding relegation will be seen as positive (from the outside) and where it will be very difficult for KM to damage his reputation (see also Vincent Company). Given a good contract and transfer budget, he will be confident he can enhance the squad and take us to survival at the least and he is already properly integrated into the plan and strategy. IMO Chelsea and Man U are highly unlikely to offer him the job now, however may well have wanted to set out their future interest, although the aggressive reputation of KM’s agents may well explain much of the noise we’ve had to endure.

Brighton have 'normalised' as a mid table Premier League team now. We have still got massive potential upside and more importantly, a wave of support behind us. You thought it was feverish at home vs Southampton, if we can maintain that level of support all season, we really can be the 12th man.

It certainly won’t be regardless of what happens. It’s a bit of a free hit as if he keeps us up he’ll be lauded, if not then he’ll still be hot property and seriously highly thought of regardless. Make no mistake he’ll manage a very big club before too long and good on him. If we can get another season or 2 to give us the best chance of consolidating then he’s worth every penny we throw at it. Especially when you consider the incremental salary for 2 years is probably ‘only’ the additional bonus we got that 2 parachute clubs came up with us. It’s poker chips.

My read of it on 17:08 - May 27 with 3359 views | Libero | Call me crazy but I never thought he was at any risk of leaving. Fair play that he went and had the conversations (if indeed he even did) but in reality its the right club wrong time for Manchester United, the wrong club re-Chelsea and Brighton are a little further along on a route that Ipswich Town hope to tread. Whole exercise will only have risen McKenna's stock and helped him form professional links that may be helpful in the future. I suspect the man is just as adept at managing his career path as he is his football team.

My read of it on 17:10 - May 27 with 3316 views | Mullet | I was sent the word he was off a few days ago, then the Ed Schwartz news broke. Felt like a crisis meeting to me - presumably Schwartz has come over to establish the intent to leave this time, made assurances and worked on the parameters for Kieran to stay. Work colleague joked about United approaching him last week before any word of it was out there (he is relatively well connected and has friends at United/ knows Brandon Williams Dad too as it happens) but I dismissed it and haven’t spoken to him since. Wouldn’t be surprised if McKenna was sounded out by SAF at the awards ceremony. He still makes things happen at the club. Brighton was both the big worry and the biggest let down. To go to a smaller club cushioned by Blooms spending and Prem scale Moneyball, and as awful as they are, would be gutting. They’re the type we should be taking over soon enough if we keep progressing. Perhaps it’s testament to how long we’ve been away and how quickly KmcK has got us here, but the Prem and the circus around it is an alien world to much of our fanbase. It’s nothing like it was last time we were here. I’d prepared myself for him to go, but clearly if he’s not ready to leave yet, Ashton and Schwartz deserve massive credit for backing themselves and fighting for their man. Having nearly lost him to Palace in February they must have strengthened his resolve to give it a go here. Hopefully a lot of people on social media have the guts and the grace to recant some of the sh1te they’ve chucked his way. Doubt it though.

It's quite literally the close season, the last game of the Championship season was yesterday- this will have little to no effect on preparations for the new season.
My read of it on 17:18 - May 27 with 3180 views | Vegtablue | I agree clive. And with the point BloomBlue raises: he may well have taken confidence from Kompany's treatment this summer, allaying the feared consequences of relegation. Enough outside voices have perhaps reassured him that a tough season with us wouldn't be career-defining or necessarily damaging, as most recognise the challenges in front of him/us. Bring them on!

There's a lot of sense in what you say. I simply couldn't see him going to Brighton ahead of staying with us. Getting us to lower mid table would be seen as a massive achievement and he can literally name his price. Finishing with Brighton in a similar position would perhaps not be seen as failure but nothing more than steady. Assuming all proceeds as hoped, the board have played a blinder and some of our fans need to take a look at themselves.

It’s nothing like it was last time we were here." Deserves a post of its own...we haven't kicked a ball yet in the Prem, so quickly need to get used to all the rumour, guessing and speculation; some of the discussion about KMcK has been pretty unpleasant - hopefully some will have learned their lesson for when the transfer window opens and our players (as they inevitably will) get linked with moves which may not materialise. Didn't have the quagmire of social media in the mix the last time we were here either to pile on top of the info from other sources.

Interesting. i think your fourth paragraph really strikes a chord. The Premier League really is a very different place to what it was 22 years ago. With regards to your last paragraph, I wouldn’t hold your breath on it. Let’s hope there is official confirmation soon.
