City Away 07:25 - Aug 20 with 3949 viewsturtle2

Im going for City 2 Ipswich 3
think it will be the shock result of the season for both clubs
if we go into this talking about can we keep it to under 4 then it belittles the entire sport - how many FA cup games (when the cup meant something and everyone fielded their best teams) have we seen big upsets ? we can do this - f$%^k em - who are they anyway apart from overpaid
I would deffo stick Smod in though - he wont waste chances

Think it more likely to be 0-1, with us being a bit more careful, perhaps not expending so much energy in the first half. Slightly earlier substitutions. Harness putting away the rebound for a winner late on.

Paint fumes?

Saying that, I would love it, just love it, if that were to be the outcome on Saturday.

It's how we approached away games early last season.

If we can get something out of the away fixture which probably every team in the division regards as their toughest, that would be a significant boost. And I entirely agree with the OP that it isn't right or good to speak in terms of hoping to avoid a hammering. I saw nothing on Saturday to suggest that is by any means a certainty, even against the best teams.

If we beat them I'm not sure what I would do. Probably explode.

Can't say i see it right now though. Currently I am thinking 3-0 to those lot.

Keep it down to four goals conceded then we are doing well. You have to be realistic unless your one of these fans that also thought we would beat Liverpool too.

Back in the real world.

As ridiculous as it sounds, Palace, Brentford and Wolves have all gone there and won in the last few seasons.

If you played the match Saturday 20 times we probably lose 16 and get a draw 3 times and a solitary win. Of those defeats half of those are probably a right good hammering of 3, 4, 5 goals or more.

But that's why 3,000 of us will be there. Like Maidstone fans last season who probably just wanted to put up a display they could be proud of and compete.

The chances are we don't come away with anything. But it's certainly possible. Over the course of the season, recent history suggests a team or two like us might pick up a result there over the season and it's more likely at the start of the season before they click into that ridiculous mode.

That might be possible when our new players have bedded in, but not now I'd say. I think we'll be battered and the season starting against Fulham, but hoping I'm wrong obviously. They're just too good.

Last year against the bottom half their record was P10, W10. That included wins of 6-1, 5-1, 5-1 & 5-1

The season before it was P10, W9, D1. Wins included 3-0, 3-0, 4-0, 6-0 & 4-0. The draw was midway through the season

So no, history doesn’t suggest a couple of teams like us will pick up points each year, it’s incredibly rare and c50% chance that we’ll get a thrashing. But yes, the possibility no matter how remote is what keeps people going

Most probably.

But you never know. I'd say we need our squad settled to put up our very best display. But Maidstone had 2 shots to 30 and won. Lincoln did similar.

Very, very unlikely and right now I'd take a similar confidence boosting display that shows we can compete with the best. I think 5-0 is far more likely than 1-1 but been watching football too long to rule out anything.

I did - 2nd half!!

Will we have the huge energy and sheer adrenalin of the first half next game, without the crowd to feed off? I'm not sure we will - nor should have. It was great to see, and totally understandable. i mean, what a fantastic half to start the season!

But i think we all knew that it wasn't realistic for a whole game - and it wasn't! We wilted pretty badly 2nd half (no criticism implied) and didn't have the quality of subs to come on and lift us again, as we did so often last season.

So I'm expecting two things to be different against City. Regardless of the team KM chooses I think we'll be a little more restrained the the first half, and at least two of the subs we make on the hour mark will be of a much higher calibre.

City Away on 12:41 - Aug 20 with 2362 viewsBlueySwede

It is going to be very tough. I think we will get a win or so against one of the "bigger" clubs, but our best chance of doing that will be at home at FPR.
Of course, freak results do happen, 11 vs 11 and all that...but City just have so much quality, I really struggle to see that we could resist their attacking qualities, let alone score three ourselves.
If we lose 2-0 or even 3-0, and show the will and intention of playing our game as we did against Liverpool, I will be very proud and move on to Fulham.
That is not saying it is not doable, just very very unlikely.

75/1 the odds on that.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

The PL has changed massively since Town were last there. The gulf between the haves and have nots has widened substantially. There have been a few results to match our horror show at Old Trafford all those years ago - and better sides than us have been on the end of them. So, without wishing to be all doom and gloom, I'll settle for us not setting a new record...

In all seriousness, City can batter anyone at home - and sometimes away - so if we can give a good account of ourselves and not end up on the end of a confidence sapping result that should stand us in good stead for the games that we have a chance of winning.

I hope you’re right.

They are the only team in the league I look at and see no weakness. Arsenal very good and probably close but questions over their ability to get wins over the line still after the last 2 seasons. And then the others are miles off.
