I've slept on it and, no, I can't quite shake how awful that was yesterday. The call itself and then the non-application of the VAR recourse for something that was absolutely clear & obvious. And then the borderline call on Phillips seconds later.
I rarely dwell on reffing decisions and hate discussing them to be honest, so have probably forgotten most. But I'm trying to remember any worse ones than this that stick in my head from attending games at Portman Road. I've got Bob Hamer's incredible awarding of a penalty to Liverpool for Phil Whelan's brilliant tackle on Dean Saunders early in 1992-93 (very big deal at the time!), and maybe the Marcus Stewart/Ian Harte fiasco in 2001 that perhaps cost us a Champions League place. Any others?
I was reflecting on the You're Cheating Harte incident the other day when Mark Ashton was talking about contacting Howard Webb. Very similar to David Sheepshanks around that incident.

There was the Liam Trotter one. And one in the last couple of years, the players involved I forget, where there was a slightly high foot that won the ball, long before the opponent was close enough to be endangered only for the opponent to quite intentionally throw himself over it to con the ref into a red card.
Of course, all of these have the excuse that it was in real time and reffing is really difficult. Yesterday does not. Which is why the professionalism of yesterday's officials is severely open to question.

FA cup v Portsmouth seem to remember Joe Jordan Portsmouth assistant to Harry Redknapp shouting at the 4th official that's a Fooking Red got Trotter sent off .

Someone lobbed a three quarters full bottle of Fanta at Halsey from Britannia upper, as he walked into the tunnel at FT, an absolute peach of a lob, executed superbly just missing his head by inches, still remember it perfectly and have the vision of it in my head.
Paul Durkin used to come up with some peaches against us, so much so we used to call him Dodgy Durkin, it was a relief to be relegated and he joined the Premier league "Elite" class.

The Harness disallowed goal against Barnsley is up there.
That is the first real stinker we've seen where a ref has a helping hand though. Inexplicable how it isn't given and you wonder what the point in VAR is if that isn't over turned. Especially when you see some of the soft as sh!te decisions that get given. Most recent case in point the West Ham one last weekend.
I don't buy all the corruption stuff but find it hard to believe that isn't given at the Kop End at Anfield.

I think this was the worst by far. It was bad enough that the ref and linesman inexplicably didn't give the penalty, but for VAR not to overturn it was just blatant corruption.
Not corruption in the sense they had money on it or anything, although it was bad enough that should be investigated too, but because Atwell knowingly ignored a clear and obvious (and game-changing) incorrect decision in order to protect his mate who'd compounded his initial error with the second yellow for Phillips.
My limited understanding of the rules is that even if the penalty had stood the second yellow wouldn't have been overturned (even though it is with offsides), which would have been a total mess so they (metaphorically) just said "f..k it, its only Ipswich" and ignored it.

Clive Thomas for the ancients. He single handed denied us a FA Cup Final place and probable win in 1975 in the Semi Final Replay against West Ham. He detested us for some reason. He was a pompous little prat too.

Thomas was a youth player at Norwich before injury ended his playing career. However, his antipathy towards Town intensified after that notorious FA Cup semi final as Robson called for an FA inquiry into his officiating & Mick Mills always refused to shake hands with Thomas after that game.
At Portman Road, the Saunders penalty award by Bob Hamer takes some beating.
Milk Cup semi first leg, we should've had a second against that lot but the ball deemed not to cross the line. Not a great deal of footage of that game exists so haven't been able to check with less subjective eyes for 39 years.
Away from PR, Craig Forrest being unceremoniously barged and manhandled at Cambridge was apparently within the laws of the game, leading to a goal.
And at Carra Road, mid 90s. Penalty given to us then the ref decided to change his mind.

The dive Van Nistleroy got away with when Titus Bramble was a foot away from him
That was the worst decision I've ever seen given live - he just threw himself to the ground in a theatrical way with no one near him. Everyone was laughing at the attempt except the ref - who bought it. Never seen Burley so furious. Arguably cost us relegation, and won Man Utd the league that season. I still shudder when I hear the name Rob Styles (the ref).

Pedant here.
Arsenal won the league that season, clinching the title at Old Trafford a few days after the Nistelrooy cheat match.
I've never wanted Arsenal to win so much in my life.

When usually extremely calm managers suddenly become furious as a one-off, you know there's something very wrong. Burley, then KM yesterday.
Not at Portman Road, but Clive Thomas disallowed two goals in the FA Cup Semi Final at Stamford Bridge will live with me forever. I was 10 years old at the time and cried all the way home in the car.

Warky getting sent off at Norwich in 94/95 and totally disrespected by referee Paul Durkin. I'm sorry, but Warky was a well-respected professional and didn't deserve the manner of Durkin's dismissal like he was some psycho instead of an aging player that - at best - mistimed a tackle against a pacey forward.

F***ing hated Durkin for the way he did that.
I remember it well. Darren Eadie if I recall. Monday night live sky game.
Yep, Durkin was the ultimate 'look at me' ref. Absolute bellend and as you say, hugely disrespectful to Warky.
The Wycombe one that Sitters mentions is the worst in recent years, prior to yesterday, another referee determined to be at the centre of everything.
Bob Hamer, not a referee with much to note about his career at all, I can’t remember anything else about him but I’ll not forget it in the same way my Dad’s generation won’t forget or forgive Clive Thomas.

And the first game at Villa Park when our players were totally battered and T C Thomas gave us nothing.
