I don't think the club would do a teaser video for one of our players leaving! That would be rubbing it in if we were losing Woolf!

New deal for Woolfenden incoming... (n/t) on 15:33 - Jan 31 with 2705 views | Zx1988 | That said, with the interest in him this window and the fact that the club was willing to listen to offers on a permanent basis, is this perhaps aimed at getting a fee at a later date, rather than having him about the place until 2027?

New deal for Woolfenden incoming... (n/t) on 15:43 - Jan 31 with 2474 views | Herbivore | Great news. He's not looked out of place at all this season, in fact we've often looked more assured with him in the back line than we have with some other option s in there. He's excellent on the ball even at this level and he reads the game so well. He's unlucky not to have had more minutes this season, imo.

Equally, if we went down it would be sheer insanity to sell him, especially now we've offloaded Fridge .

New deal for Woolfenden incoming... (n/t) on 15:50 - Jan 31 with 2386 views | Garv | Good news. Would have felt flat if we'd sold him this window, and I hope he stays beyond next summer if we stay up too. As a player he exudes calmness, in that sense it's not a surprise he's played so many games under the current manager. I don't remember too many times this season where I've felt nervy watching him - him and Joao Pedro had a good old ding dong against Brighton recently and maybe he came off second best in the second half, but on the whole he's got a good chance at this level. Where we're playing three centre halves he's perfect for the central spot, which is where he started playing under McKenna originally.

So this is amazing to see him continue his football journey with us.

He's required in the squad but yes it certainly protects an asset which is a positive.

Also, don't clubs do this a fair bit and then loan said player out? Ashton protecting our asset both ways I guess
New deal for Woolfenden incoming... (n/t) on 16:52 - Jan 31 with 1875 views | pointofblue | Can only think this is to protect him as a transfer asset, and Woolfenden was happy to go along with it as a thank you. I can't see how he's going to get squad time when everyone's fit; McKenna's dropped him twice this season already.

By that logic, every player except Delap and Omari have been dropped this season. Maybe Morsy too. He's already often featured and no doubt he will again. There must be a part that an asset is being protected but hope and expect him to play more in the upcoming matches. Really chuffed he's signed a new deal.

Davis and O'Shea haven't been dropped either, and Cajuste seems more of a mainstay now (only rested last week, as per McKenna). I expect Tuanzebe to be a regular whilst fit too. Plus, with the attacking players, McKenna has historically rotated anyway so they get more of a chance.
