My God, why am I now suddenly stupidly nervous about tomorrow? 19:17 - Apr 13 with 3599 viewsghostofescobar

We couldn’t have one of those bumps in the road now, could we? Not after that on Saturday. Although we have had a couple of bumps after good results - losing 2 after thumping sheff u, thumping qpr and Swansea away with each game followed by tame home draws, 4 wins on the bounce, then losing at sheff u….actually that was the last bump that was post good results, so that’s out of our system. Isn’t it? Someone tell me it’s out of our system. I hate my inner negative voice. COYB

Because it's a really tough one! Horrible ground to go to, very big game for two sides who are both on good form, got to reset three days after a huge & emotional win. We'll have to really grind it out. A draw would be no disaster at all, a win would be absolutely huge.

That’s just all part of a promotion run in.

I really wish we didn’t have a game this week.

It would’ve been nice to bask in the glory of Saturday for a few more days.

It's in our own hands and we need 10 more points from 6 games. So 1 point tomorrow will be welcome 👍.

I think we'll get an early goal and roll them over easily, the squad can see how close we are to promotion and will push on from here!

Nah, I'm getting 22/23 vibes about the squad right now.

I really feel like the players have stepped it up a gear in the last few weeks. They know the finishing post is in sight now. Put everything into these next 2 games and we've killed every bit of hope for all other sides (bar Saints perhaps).

Plus, Pompey really are sh*te on paper, let's be honest. Marlon Pack and Andre Dozzell in central midfield. No senior full backs. A Colby Bishop with one of the worst finishing stats in 25/26. If our heads are on, we stroll this by 2-3 goals.

We need to control the crowd. They will be happy after the result against Boro, but any team there has a weak underbelly. If we can get 2-0 up, they should fold. Even if they go 1-0 up, 2-0 up, they will still be nervy.

We could. Pompey are scrapping for everything right now and wont be easy as their result at the weekend shows. Luckily Chaplin wont be able to play against us which is one good thing.

i think Charlton away will be the hardest game we have left. Not talent wise but they will make it a horrible game.

Could tomorrow have the same vibes as Barnsley away which was an incredible night

A similar result tomorrow and similar to after the Barnsley game we'll know promotion is nearly there

Nothing is a given in this league and often after a big result a team often then loses the next game.

In theory we should get some form of result but it doesn't always work that way too.

Having beaten the scum I'd take a point to keep momentum going but obv want 3.

If we can score first and score early, that will certainly help.

Pompey will be make it very hard for us for sure so three points at Fratton Pk would be as big a statement to our rivals as the derby game win.

I don't think we will, but the wins against Birmingham and at Norwich mean a bump in the road isn't going to make the wheels fall off.

Particularly defensively. Since Wrexham, we have conceded just six goals in nine matches - half of them in one game (the draw at Stoke). Five clean sheets. Since Christmas, only three teams have scored more than one goal against us (SheffU, Wrexham and Stoke).

That second half display against Brum was ugly and nerve-wracking, but by God it worked. Likewise on Saturday (if less threat and pressure than the preceding Monday).

We can defend. Which gives our strikeforce the best chance of getting a win.

Has been a season of steps forward and back

But we’re 9 games unbeaten with 6 wins

And the squad seems to have got itself bonded and fit, and we have the depth to bring in freshness. Neil, Nunez, Clarke and McAteer with be chomping at the bit tomorrow.

But I get your concern. Why I think tomorrow is big, is that if we do win I think we’ll then go on a serious run, lose and the wobbles return and we give Boro hope. Albeit they seem a busted flush - with their manager making a last throw of the dice by bating the team.

Really looking forward to tomorrow though.

Sadly I wrongly thought this kind of post (again) was a troll. Only Southampton are maybe playing better than us and still some find negativity all too easy to come by despite our fine form.
There is nothing to worry about it…..my only concern now is it will lead to a boring end of season as will be done and dusted before the final match.

Weird post. Why is it “negative” for a fan to be nervous?

We didn't lose 2 after thumping Sheff Utd. We won 2, and drew 1, including beating Norwich (h), but we then lost 2 in a row.

We do not tend to have 2 consecutive bad performances/results in a row.

Keep the faith.

There are more upsides than down with this fixture. Win or draw and it pulls us further ahead of our assorted rivals (at least 3 points plus GD above third, maybe 5). Lose and our rivals gain nothing on us - they aren't playing - and we have only had consecutive losses once all season (but never more than two). Doubt it's a habit we're suddenly going to pick up now.

Saturday was a strange one.

We could have scored 5, and we defended brilliantly and controlled the game, but our passing was not particularly good, but we fully deserved to win the game.

I agree with your assessment that it’s unlikely we’ll suddenly develop a habit for any period of not picking up good points - we’ve been too consistent for too long.

However, one small correction - Southampton can gain on us tomorrow if they better our result.

Ah yes, I misread the fixture table, hadn't realised they are playing too.

Edit: Mind you, I still think they're too far behind to have a good chance of catching us.

Because you're a fan and it's the championship where anything can happen and you should rightly respect all opponents, and you're not alone my friend!

It’s about respecting your opponents and knowing that Portsmouth away is always a challenge. Yes, under Mr Cooke we thumped them but by and large it’s a tough place to go. My one visit? B awful, though we got a result.

If our team can embrace Saturdays professionalism we will be ok.
