At the beginning of last season, I didnt even think he would still be here, yet he stayed, fought for his place and played in the Prem for us. At the beginning of this season, I can honestly say I never thought he would be a mainstay for us.

I'm delighted he has proven me wrong. I thought he was excellent again last night. Proper work rate, strong in the tackle (lovely bit of gamesmanship) and tidy enough to keep the ball moving.

Its a proper old cliche but you can tell he loves playing for this club, wears the badge with pride and has earned the respect of the fans. The Super Jack chant was loud and clear when he went off last night.

He really does wear it with pride.

He has been decent all season, but has really stepped up the last few games - and has had to as Matusiwa's level has dipped for the first time all season (dead leg/fatigue seems to be slightly hindering him).

I thought Azor was much better last night, hopefully injury is behind him.

Taylor has done very well this season.

Taylor, Furlong and McAteer are not obvious stars but are finishing the season strongly. Important players putting in decent shifts and getting us over the line.

Hands up from me, too.

I've written him off a few times, but he is an important part of our team right now.

He has been very very good in the second half of the season, but does need to learn when and when not to dive in though.

Admittedly the yellow card he took last night was a "good" one to stop the breakaway, but that first half challenge was reckless, and smarter opposition players would have made that into a dificult decision for the referee . . .

We really really struggle without him. He is the player in that midfield who can get round the pitch and keep play moving, which isn't really his game but he has done it pretty well. Matusiwa does the interceptions and breaking up play bit well but he is pretty limited on the ball so needs that guy next to him. I like his tenacity off the ball as well.

He is a credit to himself and I imagine he has probably earned himself a chance to be a squad player next season if promotion is our fate.

He’s been excellent. The industry and energy he brings to our central midfield is something that really sets him apart from the alternatives. He covered so much ground last night and was very neat on the ball as well. The thing you can always say about Taylor is he influences a game, he rarely goes missing for long periods.

Have to say I thought Neil did very well when he came on as well, which was good to see.

Yeah, I'd agree that he has really adapted his overall game since he has been here and I make you bang on that his energy is missed when he goes off.

RE next season, I certainly won't be making the mistake of writing him off again! He has earned the right to be in the sqaud.

Top bloke, I'm delighted that he's finding his place.

He struggled to match the ridiculous levels that Sam and Mass were putting down every week in his first season, then unexpectedly found himself in the Premier League competing with those guys plus a Swedish international and a former England player of the year, even this year he started as 4th choice.

But he is the epitome of that saying, "Hard work beats talent when talent don't work hard". He's put the yards in when others seemingly haven't been prepared to and is now being rewarded. Glad he's in our team for this run in.

I must admit I have an apology to give Taylor. I stated in several of my posts he wasn't good enough and in truth the statistics of the number of times KM was prepared to play him kinda backed that up.
So my apologies Mr. Taylor, just keep it up, you have turned from zero to hero.

I mean if he is starting for you in the prem you are in trouble I think. No offence JT if you are reading.

But chuck him on for the last 10 if you happen to be winning, I'm sure he could chop a few people down and get about the pitch.

He did a solid job and its thankful we have him. But when you look at morris and Hackney you realise the vast differences between them and taylor. Its another level imo. We are thankful because our other cms other than azor havent made the cut but whilst taylor was solid I dont think we get much creativity from him and thats an issue when youre not getting it from azor too.

Me too! I seem to remember both of us being in agreement on wondering what he brought to the team early in the season.

Well done Jack. He is now definitely our number 2 midfielder, and has picked up the slack in Matisuwa's dip.

Did Mass and Morsy provide us with that much creativity?

Do we need it? Win midfield battles, provide energy, intercept moves, control the ball and pass it quickly to the more creative players. Why overthink it?

Maybe not in terms of loads of goals or assists but both were significantly better ball players. Morsy could really dictate play as a 6 and drive the ball forward and get us up the pitch. Lunogo had a lot of class on the ball too, think he came through as more of creative midfield which figures.

We have really struggled to dictate games from midfield this season, which is pretty important. Especially with how we play out from the back.

If there was an award for 'most improved player' he'd win it hands down.

I used to joke with my mate that Taylor's second touch was usually a tackle, but his control has definitely got better this season.

Makes you wonder if 1 or 2 others were discarded too soon. Chaplin would have been an asset this season, Harry Clarke an able backup.

He’s done a professional job, but the fact he’s still in the team is as much a comment on those around his, as it is on Taylor himself.

Cajuste has been a total let down, Morsy wanted to go and play very serious football, in a very serious league instead of accept a bit part role and poor Dan Neil is getting pelters from our support for not being upto the standard, after playing next to no football all season.
Nunez of course has been prefered in a ten role too.

Other than Azor, there’s no one else to play that role week-in-week out at this point of the season, so thank god Taylor is doing it adequately.

Love Chappers, but I don't think he's even a Championship player. Certainly not outside the monster mentality squad.

Completely agree. The recruitment hasn't really worked for centre midfielders (with the exception of Matusiwa) but to be fair to Taylor, he has massively upped his game and filled the void. He hasn't sulked or demanded a move, he has worked hard to become a consistent part of our team.

Hopefully in the summer, we will have more joy with filling that role (and the poxy number 9 one as well!)

If we’d had Neil from the start of the season, Taylor wouldn’t be getting a sniff!

Bloody number 9. Azon works hard but I'm sick of how easily he goes to ground, surely after nearly a year he's realised it wont wash with most refs at this level. He's also nowhere near clinical enough, to not at least work the keeper with that chance at 1-0 yesterday is so wasteful and its not the first time this season. Hirst is similar, his movement is generally good and he occupies defenders well enough, but his finishing has left a lot to be desired this season.

We seem to have lived in this state of constantly being short in that area. Even last season with Delap we were still left starting Szmodics up there against Newcastle and bringing Al-Hamadi off the bench. For all of our recruitment its muddled to stack us with forward players but still have Al Al-Hamadi making 11 premier league appearances.

We need to get that right in the summer, regardless of what division we're in.
