post here the positive things that come out of lockdown ( come on, lets try and counteract all the negativity) you can always ignore it if you think that its just smugness,

I'll start. I eat better at home, than when I'm in the office, and I exercise more consistently.

I'm able to spend more time throughout the day doing prep for the evening meals.

Saved a bundle on food and takeaway coffees.

Love my 8:59am alarm.

No piling on a packed out Tube in the morning.

I've been quietly enjoying it all, tbh. Work has increased but that's to be expected.

Like you, it's exercise for me - I've gone from not running, to running half marathon distance relatively comfortably (ie, not dying!). Have signed up for a 100k race, split over two days, in June.

I've kept my job, as has my wife and we're hoping to move this month. Had we lost our jobs, or had an income reduction, that's unlikely to have happened.

Having spent too much time watching TV, Me and Mrs SaleAway have put aside one evening a week for "creative" time. She is trying to spend more time drawing and painting. I'm working my way through Stephen Fry's " An Ode Less Travelled", and writing bits of poetry.

Spent more time with family.

Actually talking and discussing more with the wife and kids than ever.

Exercise, walking and general fitness was way better (except over Xmas) than in a long time.

Reading.

Said on a thread a while ago that I actually feel closer to my family despite us all only being in contact via phone/Zoom. Been speaking regularly to some people I maybe would've seen just once or twice all year, so it's brought us all closer together, even though we can't see each other.

I'm assuming when you say Reading, it is related to books, as opposed to Reading, Berkshire?

Good effort. Some positives:

Current account keeps topping up without the London commute fare.

Great vibe in the Unstable household, loving box sets together, and bizarrely working and schooling in harmony with the improved broadband.

Loads more exercise, and loving cycling even more with the discovery of GRAVEL.

Far more contact with foreign relatives through video calls.

Getting more DIY done.

During lockdowns I discovered how much I really like beer, red wine, vodka and gin. Sometimes it takes a crisis to reassert your love for something.

I also discovered that I don’t really like my children - is that a positive?

Can pop out at lunch time to try and watch the kingfisher on the local canal.

Changed jobs and this job allows for anyone who wants to take an hour out of your day to exercise in the daylight.

I think those two discoveries may be interrelated!

Worked all the way through, which I have been happy about as I genuinely really do like my job.

Missus was able to change jobs back in November and it's gone perfectly for her, she couldn't be happier.

I've managed to get down to my lowest weight for some years now (12stone 12). Started running now I can't play squash and have managed to knock 3 minutes already off my 5km run (only been 3 times).

Hopefully our house move should still go through this month (were in a short chain as it is), and this will now be our last home as it's in the area we really want and a detached house. Needs a bit of work in time, but that's why we won't move again.

....mainly through not going into the office, probably about £5K - £6K over 10 months all in.

It's meant that my trainer collection has been able to grow at a far faster rate than normal, without the wife moaning about it (quite as much).

Although storage is now becoming a bit of a problem.

Financially I worked out with the wife a couple of months back that we saved c£8k through the year - boosted massively by several months not paying nursery fees, travelling, going out costs etc. Extra saving plus stamp duty freeze enabled us to increase the budget significantly when we moved in November, from what we had been expecting

On an emotional level, having our boy here rather than nursery for those months and spending more time with him was great - although I do have a small worry about a lasting social impact from not seeing other children. As good as that was however I’m glad nursery is staying open this time around

Obviously recognise that we’ve been quite fortunate with both me and my wife continuing to work fully from home even whilst the boy has been here - and that others haven’t been so fortunate

Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010
