We've recruited in this window like.... 08:32 - Feb 2 with 6041 views | itfcjoe | ....we've appointed a new manager at the start of the month and trying to reshape the squad to get a couple of his players in. But it's not, it's this managers 5th transfer window since being appointed. More good money thrown after bad. The squad is ridiculously bloated, our youngsters just pushed further and further down the pecking order and into the U23s of a League 1 side. I was never one that said relegation would be a good thing, but I think most accepted that going down would allow us to have a bit of a reset, try and bring through some youngsters, utilise the academy and build something from the bottom up. The salary cap has changed things somewhat, but the state of the squad when this manager has been in place over 2 years is a disgrace really - when you look at how streamlined a squad Mick was running by the end of his tenure in the championship, to have this many in L1 is mental. GK: Holy, Cornell RB: Matheson, KVY CB: Chambers, Woolf, McG'ness, Wilson, Nsiala LB: Ward, Kenlock CM: Dozzell, Downes, Bishop, Harrop, Nolan, Huws, Skuse RW: Thomas, Judge, Lankester, Dobra LW: Edwards, Bennetts, Sears ST: Norwood, Parrott, Jackson, Drinan, Hawkins The players are there, but the manager isn't - will he be able to use this lot to limp to 4 points every 3 games and get us nowhere? Probably.

The number of players we have and their quality relative to the rest of the division is ridiculous. And yet we still manage to look a total mess. I have no faith at all that the new signings will make too much of a difference as Lambert simply can't set a team up or get the best out of individual players. Even if we do fluke a run to promotion from here with 5 loanees in the side, where would that leave us for next season? Still with an incompetent manager and missing half a team, with our talented youngsters no closer to being ready to step up. Evans has totally screwed this. There was scant evidence that Lambert was the man for a medium term rebuild when we appointed him, and that's been horribly exposed every day of the 2 years he's been here. You will be able to name a strong XI on those left out of the 18 for every game!

Remember mick mills said on the radio about when players are not in the matchday squad they almost become a bad egg because they are not giving anything.

I can answer that one for you, you don’t need to worry about promotion this season.

It seems almost unfathomable but PL does seem to charm/talk the talk when he needs to. We just never see it anymore.

Whilst Evans is a bit of a clown, even he would be hard pushed to swallow that bullsh!t from Lambert, there must come a point where he says to him "Paul, seriously?" Which is why I'm pinning my hopes on the fact that these players have been brought in by the new guy.

I think it’s Evans giving Lamberk every possible chance so he doesn’t get sued when he sacks him once he’s well again.

It's a mess that has happened repeatedly over the time Evans has owned the club, indecisiveness and a lack of any sort of overarching strategy. There's nothing to suggest that it won't go on happening even after Lambert's long-overdue departure.

As ive said before, i really could see us in league 2 in the next 5 years. The same mistakes are happening over and over again it will eventually catch up on us. There is zero strategy to this club, 5 point plans are just words nothing more. If you believe in playing attractive football, then you don't consider Neil Harris as a replacement for Lambert as he's a long ball merchant. If Evans believes in a playing style then build up a data base of managers who like to play football and recruit from them. Stop all this they've been promoted from x,y,z league as that recruitment policy doesn't work. 1 or 2 loans to fill a gap or to improve the quality of the team, stop buying filler and short term people in January windows, buy players who are going to be here for a few years before potentially selling them on/replacing them. Everything about the club is reactionary and it has to stop.

You can have good individuals, but if the man in charge can’t coach a team together, it all becomes irrelevant.

As others have said, it's very similar to the period just before the end of Paul Jewell. In that case, ME didn't give him much to spend in the summer - and from what I gather he didn't push that much as he felt he'd previously had decent backing without success - but then provided cash very late on in the window and then subsequently for loans when it was becoming clear results weren't going our way rather than making the decision to sack the manager and appoint someone else, which was clear he would eventually have to do anyway. We're at that point now, albeit with the owner already having half an eye on potential replacements if this latest last throw of the dice doesn't improve matters. As you say, the same mistakes are made time and again. The next one - and I hope I'm wrong about this - will be to appoint another firefighter manager, this time to get a promotion push back on track double-quick rather than to try to prevent relegation as was the case with MM and PL, and not someone to manage a long-term project that's needed and which they themselves outlined with the five-year plan.

We've recruited in this window like.... on 09:32 - Feb 2 with 3395 views | NthQldITFC | How much of it is due to general incompetence, and how much due to the specific incompetence of signing injured and/or injury-prone players on the cheap over a long period, or the specific incompetence of running a club with a weak medical and fitness infrastructure, both of which lead to the signing of more cheap injury-prone players to fill gaps?

It does concern me how Town will cope in this division once the salary cap has more of an impact. Really doesn't take that much of a slip from form over the last few months to be in the relegation battle. On the games played after the first six - five wins, one draw - we are 18th in a form table. https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:league-one/daterange/fromdate:2

We should nae have been playing....no normal....we had covid right thru the club...I had it and I’m still suffering.....we had to let our fitness coach go too which didnae help....so many injuries it’s just incredible...we had to blend so many new players in...we go again

We've recruited in this window like.... on 09:40 - Feb 2 with 3327 views | IpswichKnight | It’s a proper mess and one that could have been easily avoided a few times. Now ME will have 6 loan players going and 19 player’s out of contract and a new manager to recruit on top of that it will be season ticket renewal time. We’ve not shown any kind of form long term to get out of this league why suddenly will we do that now?

We are going to need clever recruitment and a plan of action to get out of this division, we won't simply be able to out spend anyone quite obviously. On the above point we've shown we are hopelessly out of touch and don't know what we are doing. You would also hope we will have a better manager to stop getting dragged in over the next few years. But if we continue on the path Evans has taken us with short term decisions, poor decisions, then i really think League 2 is a possibility it might be laughed out by a few people but i really worry for the future of the club at the moment, this isn't a reaction to this season neither is it about the investment levels anymore. The club isn't getting enough bang for it's buck because of the way it's managed. Evans needs to get people in who can run the club 7 days a week and drive it forward, he has too many other interests to devote his time to solely us and we are too big of a club to be run by an owner 2 days a week as i believe is the case.

The salary cap will obviously impact but there are only a finite number of players that big clubs will want - whilst it will make it easier for bigger clubs to take a punt on some players they’re not going to want to be paying players they don’t need So as one of the biggest and most attractive clubs in the division we should still have an advantage if we’re clever* - for example writing in large salary increases or bonuses in the event of promotion *ah - I see the problem here [Post edited 2 Feb 2021 11:19]

Phil, are you suggesting that Paul Lambert's coaching, motivational and tactical skills might find working under a salary cap, when can't just chuck players at a problem, a little difficult?

Lambert stays in charge, it's an inevitability - he's making a pig's ear of it with one of, if not the biggest, budgets in the division. Imagine what would happen next season if he was forced to actually do his job and coach, motivate and organise tactics properly?
