Is moving to the Premier League. This is one of the most sinister and awful regimes in the world that regularly executes enemies around the world. Think they will pass a fit and proper person test?

I think Trequartista is spot on further down the board:

Looks like the Newcastle takeover is back on by Trequartista 6 Oct 2021 22:15
To be fair, the Saudi regime haven't murdered any journalists in the past few weeks so they should get through the Premier League owners' and directors test ok now.

Especially now that the important stuff like dodgy tv streams has been resolved, human rights can wait.

Now, now. If you can't see the advantages of more exiting half time entertainment like a stoning here and a beheading there, then you're not really a modern football person!

Aha I hadn’t seen that but yes spot on.
It’s just awful. I’m sure the Geordies will love it.

I think it is a tough one, some people want their football club to have a higher moral standing than the Government of the day......that we can trade and do deal with the Saudis because the country likes the colour of their money there, but not when it is buying a football club.

It's definitely sportswashing in a huge manner, but maybe they'll actually become a bit more liveral by being involved heavily in another country. If it wasn't Newcastle they'll soon go elsewhere - and how clean is all the other money in the football pyramid?

All of them??
Im from the North East and I know that most fans are very uneasy about this potential takeover.

They misheard "Haway" as "Houthi" and felt the need to get involved.

Fair play to Mike Ashley for finding someone even more awful than himself to sell the club to.

And the Newcastle fan saying it's not about money !

Oh for the days when clubs were owned by local businessmen .

Anyone know how many Premier clubs have UK owners ?

Most local businessmen - the likes of the Cobbolds - could never afford to run even a 2nd or 3rd tier club nowadays. The money-fest since the 1990s has pushed things way beyond their reach.

I think this is the core of it. The day the Premier League was created was in many ways a sad one for me, despite us being part of the first season. Actually, I think football as I knew it began to die when shared gate receipts were ended in the early 80s.

Now, anything goes whether it’s dreadful people like Ashley, Russian oligarchs or Arabs. The best of them are Leicester’s owners and the worst - take your pick. The local business men, Cobbolds etc, as you rightly say are long gone.

It’s sad, but it’s not going to change now.

By a group, I assume that your imagined Venn diagram of those chanters and the contributors to this forum would be two concentric circles, with one completely encircling the other?

My version would be different.

Yes this is all depressingly correct. Money is how all these corrupt terrible regimes prop themselves up. I bet it won’t be long before the CCP buy Leicester or something.

Some admittedly poor football banter vs. state sponsored executions. It’s quite a leap.
