Burns a great impact sub? 12:42 - Oct 25 with 1951 viewskizaitfc

I see a lot of people wanting him to start, but I actually think him coming on against tiring legs is a great tactic - bit like what we used to do with Danny Haynes.

Burns struggles to keep the intensity for a full 90, I personally would much prefer to have that intensity in the final 30 than the first 45 or so.

The choice of players we have is ridiculous, I also think Edwards may turn out to be similarly useful off the bench.

I personally would start with Aluko, Chaplin and Celina - three smart attacking players to start the game then throw in the flair and speed 2nd half.

Burns is better for me. More direct, quicker and provides far more width. Personally, i think Aluko and KVY would be a better partnership as Aluko likes to cut in and KVY likes to get beyond. That being said, Donacien isn't going to lost his shirt and combined well at Fratton park.

An embarrassment of riches at the moment.

Aluko's form is keeping Burns out for the the moment - he became undroppable after Cambridge. I suspect we have the best two right-wingers in the league - Burns is a fabulous impact sub. We're so much weaker on the left - it needs Edwards to step up big time.

I think you’re right re: Burns as an impact sub if he can’t play the 90 minutes and we’re managing his achilles or whatever it is. Aluko isn’t as exciting or as explosive but I think he’s been better for our overall play and getting us on top.

Chuffed to bits for Celina scoring, and maybe that gives him a confidence boost, but I think he’s been a bit of a liability so far when he’s lost the ball too cheaply and then looked a little lost himself when the opposition come at us.

I’d have Edwards or Fraser alongside Chaplin and Aluko as they seem to keep the ball better and have been better at linking up with the players around them. Then bring Celina and Burns on to be more direct and run at defenders.

Is there any real evidence that Burns can’t last 90 minutes.? We do have an embarrassment of riches in the wide areas, but IMO Burns is the best of them . He has built up a good understanding with Donacien, and seems able to find Bonne with crosses. A decent goal scorer too.

Celina had been really poor since he has been here. Burns had been really impressive so or course Ipswich would suggest starting Celina ahead of Burns. What next start Jackson and save Bonne for impact?

I expect the reply will be that Celina isn't fit yet, if that is the case he shouldn't play and someone in the medical team should be sacked for allowing it

4 assists & 1 goal so far for Celina so he's contributing.

But yeah, you don't start him ahead of Burns

Well I just don't think man players could keep up the intensity that he gives for 90 minutes. If he could he certainly wouldnt be playing L1 football

It's typical because I thought Celina really struggled when he came on and we actually lost a bit of control of the game. Of course he pops up with the winner.

Burns has done really well at home, but for me Aluko gives our midfield a lot more control and ball retention. At the moment I don't think you can drop him.

I think especially in the tough games where teams try to launch the ball in the air at every opportunity, Aluko is much more likely than Burns to be able to get the ball down and play. Burns needs to be played into space with grass in front of him really.

I think after conceding so many goals in the early games, Cook seems to like one flying winger and one more reserved, who retains the ball and links play.

Hence the Burns/Fraser or Aluko Edwards combo.

Re: managing his game time and preventing injury, I’ve seen a couple of references to it. I took that as real info, but I must admit I’ve not seen/read the source myself. So would be good to know if that’s not real.

Either way, Burns has been used relatively sparingly and tends to get subbed after he goes quiet. So not sure we’ve ever seen him as the 90-minute player that Bonne, Chaplin and Fraser have been.

But in terms of pure impact he’s our best player, I’d say. So the OP makes sense.

Burns can always play at RB and behind Aluko, of course, as he did often for Fleetwood.

Although I'm not suggested Janoi gets dropped, just an option.

It's definitely true, he'd had an injection in it at start of season and pulled up rather sharply in the Shrewsbury game just after half time.

He looks like one who is able to get through it - but when you have a replacement as good as Aluko has been you simply don't take the risk

I agree with your assessment generally but also worth noting that starting with Burns and then bringing on Edwards would mean a defender having to cope with pace and skill up against them for the whole match. We do have some excellent attacking options. With consistently better defending (that we appear to be seeing now), the future looks bright in terms of entertainment and results. COYB!

Well FWIW, I feel Burns should be in the team ahead of Edwards ( who I feel often loses possession (through one trick/ step over too many). I feel Burns is a very direct , gets to the by line, commits the defender time and again, usually ending in a cross into the box or a shot.

"It's kind of a weird one really," said the 26-year-old, when asked about his three-game absence.

"I was injured without really being injured if that makes sense? It's what's called Achilles tendinitis and I have that in both my Achilles. Basically it's just wear and tear. I had quite bad inflammation in both my Achilles, which made it quite difficult to run. I didn't have much strength through them.

"I was still able to go out and do various bits and bobs, but I wasn't at 100% where I could train every day and then play on a Saturday.

"I took that two to three weeks away, worked with the strength and conditioning guys in the gym, trying to get strength back through my calves and my Achilles. We had various appointments with specialists in London to make sure we were doing everything correctly.

"I'm still dealing with it a little bit now. I'm not at 100%, but I'm at a point now where I can at least get out there and play."

On current form Burns, Chaplin and Aluko are playing the best. Somebody said that Aluko can play on the left. Therefore I would start them 3 with Edwards, Celina and Fraser on the bench.

Always start your best players and at the moment they are the best 3 out of the 6.

Nope, just falls off the bottom as only the 1 goal so far. Mind you, considering how few games he's played his stats are very good.

People were saying he was poor on Saturday. That's just him though. Surely people remember what he was like the first time round. He'll be anonymous for 90% of the time and then change the game with a bit of sublime skill or a worldie.

He feels he should be playing more games and in from the start . Given his relative “lazy” presence when he does come on, do you think we can afford to have him in the whole game? I’m not sure tbh.

Fitness permitting, Burns would be one of the first names on the team sheet for me. No debate on it at all.
