Norwood likely exit raises a couple of things for me. 16:23 - Nov 11 with 3581 viewsOriginalMarkyP

1. I hope they have got the Bonne deal sorted behind the scenes because I don't think Pigott can shine in PC's system.

2. Even if the Bonne deal is done I hope they have lined up a replacement because we can't rely on Bonne to not get injured or lose form over the rest of the season.

3. We shouldn't recall Simpson. He should be allowed to play out the fantastic season he's having at Swindon, not come back and be a bit part player here. Him playing the whole season there will benefit us in the long run.

4. (the most contentious one) Don't rule out Norwood playing for us again before Jan and even (although unlikely) working his way back into the fold.

5. I haven't forgotten Jackson but he's as useless as Pigott as a lone striker.

Pigott played by himself up front for Wimbledon, scored 20 goals doing so and was literally bought to play in this system as our No.1 striker.

I wouldn't write Pigott off just yet. He's scored 3 goals in 6 starts (4sub appearances) and while he certainly hasn't hit the ground running in the way Bonne has, he'll get his chance at some point this season.

But it wasn't the same system.

Wimbledon relied on soaking up pressure and getting goals on the counter or from set pieces.

We are supposed to play on the front foot and dominate possession.

And he has looked ponderous everytime he's played as a lone striker for us.

He has hardly played for us due to the form of Bonne.

So he's going to look 'rusty' until he has a run of games and with Bonne in the form he is in, he isn't going to get them soon.

He was unlucky not to score a couple on Tuesday too.

But this matters.

I think he is the kind of player who needs to play games to get himself into form.

Just coming off the bench he'll always look rusty.

And if we lose Bonne either to injury or recall we can't afford to break him in over 5 games.

RE #4 - Reading through some of the stuff today, I wouldn't be shocked if they played Celina or Chaplin as the striker in an emergency before Norwood. As speculated, his goose is cooked here.

So what are you suggesting? We ditch a very good L1 striker and get in a very good L1 striker who is happy to sit on the bench? Plus one who will be sharp from doing so?

Most players need to play games to get into form/fitness.

I think you are looking for something that isn't a problem to resolve

Norwood was never playing for us again after the frivolous drink drive appeal.

The new owners said it was all about the right kind of character and he is as far removed from that as we could get.

This is bordering on the edge of civility on my end - but I hope to god his mental health awareness advocacy was genuine and not a stunt. It is very hard to become humble in such a short time.

Isn't Chaplin a previous 9 himself? I know PC said he was probably the most natural finisher at the club.. could Chaplin become our back up 9?

This.

He now has 2 drink driving convictions.

Time to get rid to someone desperate enough to take him.

This statistic negates subs appearances, it is very cherry picked. Norwood is a striker who is 31, been injury prone for us, has obvious problems off the field, and does not have the favour of the board. It's not hard to see why we need better.

The bloke refused to grow up, he's like the Peter Pan of bad decisions.

Indeed. Bonne wasn't first choice at the start of the season. His goals have made him undropable. But Pigott is very talented and given a run of games, should the occasion arise, he'll be more than good enough.

Like all strikers, he needs a goal when he comes on. Then watch him shine.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Indeed. There’s no problem with Pigott.

Bonne has been outstanding at doing much of the work himself, but I really think Pigott would be fine. He’s got enough of a physical presence but what he lacks in Bonne’s nuisance value he makes up as the sort of target man who we can play balls into feet and get others like Chaplin and Burns going beyond.

But, as you say, fully within Cook’s idea of being the striker in his system.

The midfield didn’t move the ball forward quickly enough we just kept moving sideways for long periods during that game.
