poor loan signing, never worked out, didn't need him

Poll: If ITFC were to be relegated, would McKenna be poached to manage in the Prem?

Not up to scratch for us at this time.

Yeah, never looked anywhere near the required standard (and I suspect never will). 5th loan spot open now ...

Ya I can see a Man Utd kid taking that spot, but i wonder how much McKenna wants to keep Walton if Henderson is available.

Fair enough.

Got talent, but looks like another typical Prem Academy player with all the nice stuff with none of the ugly stuff to back it up.

Nice stuff? His main problem was that he could barely control the bloody thing!

I definitely think there’s a very good player in there.

But he wasn’t going to make it as a peripheral and inexperienced loanee in a side struggling for consistency, form and results. So not at all what we needed as it turned out.

You reckon? I can't recall even a promising glimpse really, not even when given a start against relatively poor opposition.

his signing was the classic FM players going insane, thinking a computer games ratings meant he'd be incredible in league 1....

He had a very good cameo at Gillingham in the Trophy. Nothing outrageous but very good when he finally got on the ball.

Other than that he didn’t really show much. But the point is that he’d only just turned 18 when he joined us and parachuted into a team that certainly didn’t find its feet at the start, and arguably still hasn’t.

So whether he was the right player or not, it was definitely the wrong time.

Was a hallmark of Cook to recruit and then recruit again, sometimes again after that. Why he did this, god only knows but it’s hurt his career and possibly a few players like Barry too unfortunately. Probably a Luongo type scenario.

I always felt this signing was the new owners giving Cook everything needed to walk the league. Probably not needed but here's a young wonderkid just for the sake of it. Then we signed Morsy, Celina and Walton...and Cook still couldn't get us going...

I think it was seen as a bit of a coup that we got him but never lived up to expectations. Struggled to get into games, think someone said he touched the ball four times in the first half at Burton.

Problem with being in this dump of a league is everyone hopes they get a Grealish or Barnes don’t they, but players are so far off development this can happen. Signing Barry wasn’t a problem in isolation, but the balance across the squad after Demolition man has proved to be terrible.

He just needed more time and more players in the January transfer window

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Indeed, he wasn't ready for this level at this time and the team's overall inconsistency didn't allow for him to be fed in and out and grow into it.
