Sweeney (George Carter), Minder (Terry McCann) and New Tricks [Gerry Standing). All three were great characters. Very sad. 74 is no age these days

Agreed. RIP. He was good in all three major roles, but my favourite will always be The Sweeney alongside John Thaw.

Very sad to hear this. Another little part of my history chipped away.
I was just a little too young for The Sweeney, but loved Minder and later, New Tricks.
The Minder theme was always one of our go to songs at the end of a night out. I've played it a couple of times today. Great times.

Add another one sad to hear this.

Loved the Sweeney and then Minder as a kid and even forgave him for that dreadful song and TOTP appearance.

RIP Dennis Waterman, what a shame. 74 sounds a bit young, especially for someone who always seemed to have so much to offer.

Sad news. Excellent in Minder. What a show! Thoughts with his family.

Cheers for the memories and RIP.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

I did play in a charity golf day 10 years or so ago at which Dennis Waterman was a participant & he was quite grumpy in a Gerry Standing type of way so probably not hard for him to play the role. A good actor though & I can forgive him for being in the execrable "On the Up".

I still regularly watch Minder to this day.

More for George Cole though to be honest - I never 100% warmed to Dennis Waterman for some reason.

Very sad to hear this, he was a great actor who carried on brilliantly after 'Minder' with 'New Tricks'. R.I.P.

Think he'd have had a good laugh at this -

RIP

I loved The Sweeney and Minder, still do.

I remember Dennis Waterman opening one of the record shops (Andy's Records, maybe?) in Queen Street in Ipswich at about the time that he was in the charts with The Minder theme tune.

I remember Andys in two loacations but can't remember if one was in Queens...I am certain there was Parrott there...or God was it Rex records.....my mind is all confused.
I remember Ians in Felixstowe was originally with Andys ... ice cream wars of Glasgow and all that...not really but i'm sure there was a fallout that created both shops...
I think now Andys was not in Queens... St Nicholas and Dogs head

I am not sure, it could have been Parrott.

Whatever it was it must have opened in 1980 it seems because that was when it appears the theme tune was in the charts and Dennis Waterman was in his pop star phase.

It was certainly Queens Street, whatever the record shop was.

There was also a record shop at the town end of Woodbridge Road-not relevant to this thread though and I cannot remember the name of the shop!

Parrot records was Queen Street. It became Rex records late 80s.
