I was about to start a thread on this. The original was somewhat formative for me, having watched it as a young teenager coming to terms with a lot in my own life. That said, I really shouldn't like the original or the sequel. Not a fan of the military industrial complex, nor Tom Cruise as an individual (scientology) or particularly as an actor since Jerry Maguire, Rainman etc.
But in spite of all that, and the plot contrivances and over-sentimentality and plane-porn and flag-waving etc., I LOVED it.
It's clear to see why they didn't rush it out during the pandemic to streaming services. It requires a big screen experience. Remarkable achievement all told. I laughed, cried and gripped the edge of my seat multiple times. Cracking blockbuster cinema. [Post edited 30 May 2022 13:45]

I have to say,not being a fan as such of the 1st...This one is a bloody great film...and for a great night out out at the flicks,you'll not be let down with it,even if you are like my daughter who had no knowledge of the first film and is not into planes it got a....big thumbs up,
Yep,it's clever too without spoilers as such in that the under 40's could watch it without needing to have actually seen the original ... it's very inclusive , I think it will do well regardless for it's opening weekend with us oldies..but the difficult 2nd weekend which I think would have seen a massive drop off if it was just OK will get word of mouth audience for the young'uns...continuing it's run to the Billion dollar club...A truly cinematic experience ...close to I guess to Avatar in 3D back then. |  |

You've trained him well master Yoda...I have to say PT and A is one of my faves and for around 2-3 years it was along with my mates watching it part of the post pissup weekend early morning tradition after the word or james whale,hit man and her,etc..

The first one was one of my Favourite films as a kid so I took myself off to watch the new one on Sunday.
Have to say it is stunning. Some great (and not always obvious) call backs, story good and visuals are just epic on the big screen.
