Liz Truss is almost certainly our next Prime Minister. 15:26 - Jul 19 with 3716 views | tractordownsouth | She’s almost caught up the gap to Mordaunt in the penultimate round and now there are only Badenoch’s votes to distribute. Given that Badenoch has attacked Mordaunt over culture issues surely the bulk of her support will now go to Truss, and I can’t see Badenoch MPs like Tom Hunt or Lee Anderson not going for someone from the right of the party. That then takes us to the membership vote. With almost all the pollsters, Truss beats Sunak comfortably. Although it’s an unweighted sample, Conservative Home regularly puts her near the top of their cabinet approval rankings, with Sunak near the bottom. Sunak will no doubt try and maximise the number of debates because that’s his strong point but his polling with the membership is so dire and the fact he won’t promise tax cuts doesn’t help his cause. But given how much of a poor performer she is in the media, if I were running Truss’s campaign I would limit 1 v 1s with Sunak, which I imagine they will try to do. Good news for domestic cheese producers.

She has been critical of PM as being 'lazy' so I thought they would all break for Sunak. At this stage it's "what jobs are on offer"?

I really don’t see the Truss hype. I don’t think Sunak would be an electoral asset to the Tories but at least he can speak eloquently. I think a Truss General Election campaign would make Theresa May look genuinely strong and stable.

Yep. I expect her vote to massively increase on Wednesday because she’ll have the Badenoch supporters as well as those switching allegiance for career reasons.

Sunak is actually going to have the ability to run a GE campaign whereas Truss simply isn't bar the odd photo shoot. Her speeches are terrible, looks like a nervous teenager

Having spent a morning with her recently in a briefing session on the economy, I can confirm that she is most certainly not the smartest tool in the box, it’s absolutely frightening that she may actually end up leading the country, and this is definitely the best outcome for the opposition.

I gather loads and loads of Momentum members took out tory memberships when boris became leader, so they'd be able to vote for the least suitable candidate when the time came to replace him. Of course, they can't be criticised. as tories did the same about Mr Corbyn.

What was she hoping to achieve with that look seriously? I wonder if it was some advisor who came up with the idea of trying to imitate the image or if she has a picture on her wall at home or something and decided to emulate it from that herself. A five minute window into that mind would be quite something.
