The "new striker dilemma".... by BlueBadger 16 Aug 2022 11:16
Ideally what we need to do, is go back in time, clone James Scowcroft from the 99/00 season and get McKenna to give him the number 9 role.

What others are there out there?
I'm gonna gonna start with Scowy(obvs), Eric Gates(old enough to remember seeing him play - one of my all time faves) and Cole Skuse of14/15(a much better range of passing than he's given credit for, would make an excellent foil for Morsy).

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Think Daryl Murphy would be the ideal number nine for this team.

Whilst this is L1 currently, i'm 99% sure if/when making that step up, Morsy will highlight just how limited Skuse was.

he can do the tackling job, and play, and drive the team forwards, and score.

Darren Bent. His pace, running in behind, stretching defences, creating the space for Chaplin / Harness, absolutely lethal in front of goal. What I would do for a young Benty coming through the system right now.

Darren Ambrose would be pretty useful, as a versatile attacking midfielder with two good feet who can play left, right or centre, contribute lots of goals and assists.

100%. He’d be perfect.

I was briefly thinking about McGoldrick too for one of the number 10 roles. But it’s testament to the team and the way it appears much better balanced now that it’s difficult to think he’d do any better for the team than either Chaplin or Harness.

And we’ve also got Aluko if and when we need to get back into a game and start controlling the ball better.

I wouldn't see Mcgoldrick being able to press as well.

David Johnson 2 however could have been a handy asset.

Thijssen in the Lee Evans role. Beattie, where ever you wanted him. Gates in the Chaplin role, and obviously, Paul Mariner.

Matt Holland's versatility, awareness and goals.

Hreidarsson is in some ways the prior example of fullback/central defender hybrid that Janoi is demonstrating.

Tarrico at left wing back?

Essentially, the very good technical players with the fitness to run all game are the ones that people can make good cases for.

I'm a huge Bart fan, but I think Walton is better (and I guess that's a hot take!).

Pretty much any of the 77-82 players really.

But if I was to take any to finish off the current team I'd take Mariner.
