Was having a good rant, pointing out the damage the Brexit voters had delivered to our businesses, economy, rights to live in the EU etc.
Also laughed at his suggestion that Boris was anything other than a self serving tosser and that his party had tolerated his lies when they thought they could still win with him in charge.
To counter, he pointed out to me how most people start on the left of politics and over their life time drift to the right, something I know to be true for many. He said it was a matter of time but I'd get their eventually.
I said not all drift to the right, I was clinging to my principles and remain a lefty, to which he countered I am "just a late developer"

That tendency to change political beliefs is an interesting one.
I was brought up an ardent Conservative and was very much a Thatcherite for a long time. It was only when I worked for a small business that I began to realise the purpose of unions and belonging to one. After reading "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" and seeing how that Edwardian reality would be very much the modern reality should those bosses have been allowed, that my views changed. This, coupled with becoming a Christian, and developing in empathy for those less fortunate than me mean I have followed the opposite trajectory. |  |

It's a funny one though. The EU in/out discussion shouldn't have theoretically been a left/right decision no, but judging by the amount of people who genuinely thought it would stop 'illegal immigrants' then the potential for influence is clear in that respect. | |
