and not even about football. Why? Doesn't it stress you out? That's surely not a pleasant feeling.

I've been on this board for 20+ years, although i rarely contribute. This is not at dig at individuals on here but more a wider point about society as a whole, but why do we feel compelled to have an opinion about things that don't concern us? I've no idea what life was like before we had access to information about every single one of the world's problems (and now, thanks to social media, everyone else on the planet's opinion), but i imagine it was a bit more peaceful.

I was just a reader for many years. Then thought I'd add my half penneth here and there. But I just don't understand the reasoning to arguing with people who I have never met. If I want an argument I could easily start one on here, very, very easily. I don't. I keep my gob shut and move on, don't get involved. Life is too short.

At some point last year i posted on here how disappointed i was with brenner blaming a sub-standard morsy performance on ramadan. A few on here pulled me up on looking for islamophobia. They had a point, i had a point, but going back and forth got my heart rate up. Fight or flight response. Worse than when i play football and get into an actual fight on the pitch, which happens more often than it should.

Where I see argument and general antagonist behaviour I tend to use the block option knowing there is nothing more I need to hear from a stranger.

Haha.
So it's better to have an actual physical fight on a football pitch with someone you don't know, than have a virtual argument with someone on here that you don't know!

Some people thrive on the conflict. ‘Debating’ they call it, when often it’s nothing of the sort and more just ranting at each other. It’s not for me and it sounds like it’s not for you either.

Too many people on here…. on 08:50 - Jan 6 with 3077 viewsBloots

….refuse to let things drop and hold on to perceived sleights for months, sometimes years.

Someone gets annoyed by something and they then sit and wait for that person to post and they immediately jump on it in a pointless attempt to “get their own back”.

In real life, if you don’t get on with someone then you just avoid/ignore/chin them, but on the internet the relative anonimity of it allows people to keep feuds going.

Also just typing words into a box doesn’t really allow any nuance or style to come across, so comments often get misinterpreted.

All this, plus some people are just divs that want to argue with strangers.

Peace and love to all.

Be kind.

I don’t know how people remember what someone has posted to hold that grudge.

There are about 6 posters on here that I remember by profile pic, aside from that everyone is muddle in together

No disrespect to the younger generation but I also think it's an age thing

I tend to find it's the younger folk who get tied up in slanging matches for the most on t'interweb - of course there's an older element at times but I genuinely think it's a generational thing for the most

Sunday football violence paled into insignificance if you had the misfortune of playing 5 a side at the old indoor cricket place on Henley Road, that was insane.

The old guy who used to ref was lovely, but he wasn't exactly Collina in his discipline!

Generally steer clear of argument on here, telling myself that it doesn't matter if the world is unaware of my opinions.

But what I do find disconcerting is silent posters who pop up to downvote something that nobody else has expressed a view on either way. I sometimes then upvote just out of sympathy for the original poster.

Most of the usual suspects arguing on here all the time aren’t that young though.

They tend to smack of being middle aged blokes with nothing better to do with their time.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

I’d argue posters demanding we deny human rights to sections of marginalised society and posting outright bigotry concerns us all.

Trans rights aren’t world problems, there are trans people in Ipswich. A fair few actually.

Was it more peaceful? How many people died at the hands of war and conflict in the last century?

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, it’s not a particularly informed take.
