Yep, why report on the Tory party chairman who seems to have been tax dodging to the tune of £3.7m when you can report on the PM not wearing a seatbelt...

Another Prime Minister that’s officially broken the law on 19:11 - Jan 20 with 2595 views | J2BLUE | You have to be pretty stupid to record a video not wearing a seatbelt really. I really dislike Sunak. He is an absolute snake.

It's another example of "The rules don't apply to us". Both need highlighting, in my opinion. I am curious as to whether his close protection officer will face disciplinary action for driving whilst a passenger was not wearing a seat belt. Does this qualify him or her for bad apple status?

Not really, if any of us were spotted without a seat belt we would get the same, they were just silly enough to film it. Just add to the comedy list, come election time Starmer will surely have a field day on these type of goings on.

I mean, it was almost certainly a deliberate act by the PM, to distract from more damaging news.

I’m sure they could have come up with a better distraction than doing some significant damage to Sunaks image, after party gate, non dom, private healthcare and now this it’s a bit of a disaster for him. Nothing the public likes less than a disregard for the laws we all have to follow, which is how it will be spun.

£3.7m is what that Dan Neidle chap guesses the amount could be off the one case he’s found. Others have been raising concerns going back for at least a decade: He comes across as a deeply dishonest individual. We saw that all the times he was wheeled out to repeat and defend lies during Johnson’s time.

"the former chancellor paid a penalty imposed by HMRC — part of an estimated £5m tax bill. Penalties are applied if someone does not pay the correct tax at the right time. " So he was avoiding paying tax. Evasion some might think, given that any half decent accountant would have pointed out to him what was due. Not have the tax office investigate him. And this is not some ordinary crooked Tory MP caught with his hands in the till. This was the man the corrupt bloater saw fit to make Chancellor of the exchequer. You know, the man in charge of among many things TAX. This despite the knowledge that he had been the subject of an investigation by the NCA, the SFO and HMRC, and "when Zahawi established YouGov in 2000, he arranged for the founder shares that would have been his to go to Balshore. It paid nothing for the shares. The only plausible reason for this is tax avoidance. I check my conclusions carefully and speak to tax accountants, solicitors, QCs and retired HMRC inspectors, as well as entrepreneurs familiar with startup formation. I’m stunned by the unanimity of opinion: this stinks." However so shocked were the Tory Party by these revelations, that..... they made him Party Chairman a few months later (Oct 2022) This was not an oversight either as coudl be said about the pipsqueak Sunaks failure to put on a seatbelt, though the unkind might suggest a child seat would be more suitable. No, this was deliberate tax evasion...from someone who was in charge of tax, and is now party Chairman. Its as bad as the Met police where women walk in fear of being attacked, raped of even murdered ... by the police. But still the cap doffing apologist bleat out 'thems our betters'. The ones who told them that all the fish in the Channel would be theirs, farmers would see a boom in trade and hospitals would be £350m a week better off. Food would be cheaper and VAT would be removed from their energy bill. And there would be a 'levelling up'. As one Conservative MP fumed yesterday: “I’ve got shops without roofs and whole streets of boarded-up houses and some people are getting cash for adventure golf.” Another Tory MP described the policy delivery as “a f* ck-up of epic proportions” Even they know they've been had. What little money was made available has gone to wealthy Tory constiuencies for frippery, whilst impoverished Northern constiuencies fight for the scraps. The thought that some enter Parliament to help others while some enter to help themselves has never been more obvious. Even the whinge they are going to get something out of voting Tory has been burst wide open. There is no multi million pound funds hidden away in offshore accounts, no lucrative 'consultancy' work, nor even a few million in PPE contracts for red wallers. No, just the knowledge they were conned, fooled by their own stupidity. Perhaps they might look at the huge numbers now out on strike. Ordinary folk like themselves. Nurses, care workers, railway staff, drivers.... so much for the high wage economy. And maybe reflect on the lie that when migrant workers were gone wages would rise. God, they must be splitting their sides laughing in the Carlton Club

That's been the case for a few years tbf. You not recall the adverts showing a unbelted backseat passenger smashing into a driver during a crash? Reckon I was teenager when they brought that law in so a few years ago.

When I was a kid 3 of us used to sit in the boot (estate car) without a care in the world. My record in Nigeria was 8 passengers (plus driver) in a Honda civic, that was a bit cosy tbh, cost me a couple of hundred naira fine too (about a quid)

In my yoof we managed seven in a three door Ford Escort Mk1, each with a pint including the driver. It was a long time ago, but I don’t think the driver wore a seat belt! Back to Zahawi, his activities far more disturbing to me than Sunak’s seatbelt neglect. But even if you are not keen on wearing one in the back, that’s what the requirement is so why open yourself to criticism if you are in public life? Arrogance. [Post edited 21 Jan 2023 8:30]
