When you see the amount of grief she got for her views compared to Humza, and the whole of the party machinery putting their weight behind him, I'm amazed she got as close as she did.
At least we can put to bed the 'progressive' tag that people who haven't got a clue have given the SNP.

In all honesty, independence was always a pipe dream. Consecutive polls have, in the main, always shown a clear majority for staying in the union. If independence is still held in the minority even after the lunacy of Brexit then it’ll probably stay like that for some time.
Instead of campaigning for full independence they should concentrate on trying to get more powers but still keep their independence dream a long term goal. | | | |

Who governs should be in the hands of a few, not voters. Just as an electoral candidate shall be appointed by 'Head Office' not the local branches.
The actually PM can be elected by those inelegible to vote in any UK elections through age or being a non UK citizenship.
Disproportional representation has now seen a small number of voters in Scotland decide who will be the new first minister, and an even smaller number imposing a policy on the country, with no mandate from the electorate. | | | |

In the main people tend to vote along tribal party lines rather than personalities. It’s the SNP manifesto rather than Nicola Sturgeons personal pledges. The mandate was for the SNP to form a devolved government not for its leader to do what they wanted to do. | | | |

Being very cynical but the SNP going crap is a good thing because it opens up the chance for Labour winning some seats in Scotland in the next General Election and gives a better chance of finally getting the Tories out. |  |

Just as well England hasn't followed the unprogressive policies of the SNP such as no tuition fees, free personal and nursing care, free prescriptions, gender recognition, free period products, free dental care for under-26s, bridge tolls scrapped, no NHS parking charges, a higher rate of tax for high earners, ending of the right to buy.
Of course, the choice of current candidates may not be perfect, but Salmond and Sturgeon were a hard act to follow, and there is no suggestion Yousaf is any less progressive than Sturgeon. [Post edited 28 Mar 2023 7:58]
