We can do better than a player whose played over 100 prem games, won the FA cup starting in the game. Runner up in the Europa league starting in the game. Lets not get silly now.

Lol. Who says a win against Exeter has gone to people's heads :) I imagine he'll stay in the Premier League with someone. He's got Nottingham Forest written all over him if they stay up.

Dele Alli has played for England, Spurs, Everton is only mid 20s, but I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole. Is that getting silly now? The criteria is hungry players who fit the ethos of the club. Maybe he fits that, but Maitland-Niles has spent the season at soon to be relegated Southampton and not exactly torn it up for his £50k a week for 20 appearances. So in what way is it silly to say no to him? We’ve had our fill of these type of player and I include ex PL top goalscorer Chopra in this and it rarely ends well.

When was Chopra top scorer in the PL? His best ever return in the Prem was 6 goals in a season.

I wouldn't say no to Dele Alli tbf. Also AMN is exceptional at penalties, which we arent. [Post edited 4 May 2023 13:07]

I guess he is versatile too potentially, not that a utility player really seems to be a role that McKenna looks to operate, he has players in set roles, understanding what they need to do for the team We seem to have blueprint mapped out, knowing what we need now, with players very much on an upward curve joining us Is that to say we won't want the odd experienced player with some pedigree and knowledge of what this league is about? Who knows

He wasn’t. Apols. Just checked and his PL appearances are err limited. No defence, but I remember him being touted as this that and the other. Natural goalscorer etc but was a wrong un. I’m not saying AMN is that, but players tend to shift around like he appears to be for good reason. Southampton are all but relegated. Is he the one bright light or part of the problem? Still a no from me. I was also a no for Luongo. Injury prone waste of a shirt said I. That didn’t age well. Regardless, there is a love of the big name, the marquee signing, but personally I’m switched off by it. A player with lots to prove is right for this club. For me the good news for me is that I trust the current recruitment team far more than I did Jewell, Keane, Lambert and Hurst to get it right.

Mckenna is highly unlikely to be swayed by the prospect of marquee signings, given he has recently worked with Ronaldo and Pogba among others

Chopra used to bang them in for fun in the Championship, but it's madness that we didn't do our due diligence on him as a character before spending all that money on him. His problems weren't exactly hard to sniff out either. I agree with the general point that some of these 'big name' types aren't necessarily the right profile for the type of player and character that we want. Maitland-Niles has a lot of ability and is a high calibre player but does he 'fit' with the squad we're building? Probably not. It's moot anyway as I imagine he'd see himself staying in the Prem and he most likely will find a home there.

And Jewell to be fair. He got lucky with Cresswell but aside from him I can't remember him signing anyone that wasn't a relatively well-known name, regardless of their current level of ability or reputation.
