George Hirst 21:14 - Jul 5 with 6309 views | pennblue | he seems to be fully involved in the training sessions at Leicester. Hard for him as if he does not figure in the managers plans, he could really do with a full pre-season with the team he is going to play with this season (hopefully us). If he has this proper pre-season he could really start the season firing on all cylinders. Can't help but think if he is not in the managers plans, he should push for a permanent deal elsewhere. Looking at the facilities and players at Leicester, you can't blame the lad for wanting to stay and trying to impress there.

He's under contract, they really don't know what their side will look like in August with players being sold back to the Prem. Depending on who they bring in/sell he might be needed come the end of August, he might not, but Leicester won't know until the last week of the window. [Post edited 5 Jul 2023 21:25]

Personally I think he should be sitting on the centre circle of the main training pitch, wearing the new Ipswich kit and holding up a placard saying "I WANT TO PLAY FOR IPSWICH" anything less and he just doesnt want to be here

I’ve got a bit of a moist spot for George Hirst. I know he’s not really a youngster but I think he’s got the potential to improve a lot. Not sure we can wait until the end of August for him though.

Given Leicesters situation. I really don't think we'll have much choice. The question is, do we wait, like last season, when we ended up with Ahadme in a panic. Or do we move on early?

I got the impression we need to move players out before bringing anyone in, so while we all know we need to strengthen we may not be able to until others leave

I don’t think we necessarily have to move anyone on before we sign people but we’ll certainly have to move some on by the end of August. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Given our situation I don’t think we can afford to wait for Leicester completely. I think we may have bob each way with one number 9 coming in before the Sunderland game and perhaps wait for the second until near the end of August if we have to. We could alway recall Ahadme :)
George Hirst on 22:30 - Jul 5 with 4466 views | GlasgowBlue | Elkan Baggott Looks fully involved in our training sessions. He won’t be here at the start of the season. I would expect George Hirst, as a Leicester player, to be fully involved in their sessions and getting himself fit for the forthcoming season.

I’d wait as long as we have to. We waited til January last year, and then had to wait again while he built up fitness. Worked out alright in the end.

We've made space for a new striker by sending ahadme out, so i'd guess they're working hard to get one in ASAP

George Hirst on 06:00 - Jul 6 with 3894 views | PioneerBlue | It would be surprising that Ahadme was allowed to move out if there wasn’t a very high degree of certainty in being able to bring in someone or two better than him. I know people say he’s not good enough and had to go anyway, that might be correct and perhaps Piggot fills the gap whilst trading window is complete.

Amazing isn’t it? Honestly, some people on here. If you didn’t think this deal would drag out like it did last summer, then I don’t know what they’re thinking.

His wages were supposedly slashed by 50% when Leicester got relegated so he's now meant to be earning around £10k a week. If true then I don't see it being an issue for us to match those terms.

Trading window? You'll be calling it a draft window next

Hirst has 2 years to go on his contract at Leicester and is earning £16k per week + bonuses, which is almost £10k per week more than Conor Chaplin for example and our highest earner is on £12k per week. Would we match that £16k wage?

I’d say almost certainly. Strikers always get paid more, I don’t think can extra £4K per week over our highest earner in league one is that much of a jump. Chaplin also signed a new deal so could see him being our highest earner now.

George Hirst on 09:47 - Jul 6 with 3033 views | muhrensleftfoot | I think there's a very good possibility this will still happen. New Leicester manager assessing his players in pre season which has only just started this week for them. I reckon he'll want to spend big on another striker with proven Championship credentials. Plus Hirst himself might prefer to move to ITFC where he had a great loan period and is much more likely to get games.
