Leicester financial issues 21:06 - Apr 2 with 3118 views | itfc_bucks | Lots of flapping around on the Leicester twitter accounts tonight ref the sheer scale of their losses and they're utter fcked if they don't go up. My little heart breaks...
Leicester financial issues on 21:18 - Apr 2 with 2986 views | FrimleyBlue | IF leicester go up and it's then proven they've failed ffp thus season.. doesn't any club who doesn't go up have a right to take them to court? Not saying us. But could be leeds or if leicester won a play off final v brom for example.

Leicester financial issues on 21:27 - Apr 2 with 2951 views | Pinewoodblue | Leicester seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place. If they go up this season they will no doubt start the season with a significant points deduction from EPL. If they don’t go up then they will no doubt face charges for 2023/24 season from EFL. The permitted loss in the three years up to 2023/24 falls to £83m and they lost more than that last year. Don’t exactly get the impression they have been trying to cut back this year, just gambled on promotion back to the promised land. While it may not seem fair to the fans they really do need to be appropriately punished.

They’ve lost £215m over 3 years, when the permitted loss is £105m. They should be penalised this year, but they won’t so we and others suffer their overspending. The proposed regulator that the PL are rejecting, would penalise a club in real time [Post edited 2 Apr 21:30]

If they don't punish clubs which cheat with meaningful penalties (i.e. place deductions rather than arbitrary points deductions) they might as well do away with ALL of the P&S type rules and make it a free for all. I hate cheats of all kinds. What's the point of trying to act or compete nobly yourself if someone else is cheating. Hard luck for their fans, but the fans of 23 other clubs suffer more. Same applies to water companies, all businesses subject to environmental regulation and public officials. Amongst others. [Noises of blood boiling]

Yes and there is precedent for this too. It won’t get to court but likely Leicester would settle before it reached that point for a lower but not insignificant amount. Darragh McAnthony was discussing this on TS this morning and that football finance guru (forget his name) was also discussing there is precedent for this previously too.

If the figures are for last year, how do they know there is no relegation clauses on wages, as they have not been published yet?

Think that all accounts end in June for football clubs, but may be wrong.
Leicester financial issues on 22:50 - Apr 2 with 2287 views | tcblue | They 'gambled' on FFP last time they won promotion; I told everyone about that when they won the PL. Yes that was jealousy, was it sour grapes? Also yes

Yes, their year-end is 30th June. Indeed, they changed it from 31st May in 2023 - perhaps to fit some more player sales in? [Post edited 3 Apr 0:11]

They extended it to include the Maddison and Fofana transfers, which are included in this set of accounts. Some articles seem to suggest the cost of sacking Rodgers and his entire back room staff was close to £30million.

Presumably their loss over 12 months, instead of the 13, would have been a lot higher. However Leicester choose to dress it up it still looks as if they set out to ignore the rules in an attempt to stay up. Also looks, judging by EFL transfer ban, that they have been ignoring the rules again this season. With the permitted loss, over 3 years, being £22m lower they would have needed to looking for a substantial profit this financial year to comply. Not sure there is much evidence of that.

Well, the fans didn’t rack up the losses, but they’ve had the privilege of watching a team better than most others because they deliberately flouted the rules. They sought an advantage. Given the high possibility of their promotion at the expense of clubs who acted within FFP, one of the latter will lose out to the tune of £100m, or some astronomic figure. The fine should be the equivalent to whatever that figure plus parachute payments, should they get promoted. But they’ll get a nominal points penalty that’ll be overturned and a tiny fine I’m sure.

I wouldn’t want the upkeep costs. And what’s the point of having that many bedrooms you would never use?

An average 90k is insane if correct. They don’t have a single player worth that (or even near that). Who are they paying over 90k to - presumably a past-it Jamie Vardy. It’s going to be f’ing hilarious if they bottle promotion, if some of those are on long contracts they’ll struggle to shift them.
Leicester financial issues on 10:08 - Apr 3 with 970 views | ArnoldMoorhen | The thing I don't get is this: If a team fields a player as a sub for two minutes, and it turns out there was a mistake with their registration, then the team can be thrown out of the competition immediately. But if a team deliberately fields an entire team whose transfer fees and wage structure massively cheat the rules designed to ensure fair competition, then that team completes that season, and can start the next one, with the same deliberate over-spending in place, and, once it finally is ratified that the cheating has occurred, can continue to field those same players and may not be punished for seasons to come. There needs to be: 1. Immediate harmonisation of the fair play regime between the Premier League and Football League, with punishments applied as soon as possible, even if that means a breach in one leads to the punishment being applied to the other. 2. The automatic appointment of administrators to any club found to be in breach, with the power to sell players to ensure compliance ongoing. 3. The appointment of an independent valuation panel to ensure that a reasonable price is achieved in such a fire sale. 4. The suspension of the transfer window for all teams during the fire sale period, so that all clubs can make transfers if they are within the Fair Play limits. Once rules that clear and immediate were imposed, it wouldn't take long for equilibrium to be reached and such fire sales would become rarities, but would spice up some of the duller stretches of the season when implemented.
