Saw someone at Hersham station today while leaving work to come home decide there was only one way out. I was the only person on the platform at the time.

Horrendous. Presumably RIP

Well they walked down the end of the platform I think. They sort of vanished and then it happened. It’s an incredibly long station (I don’t know if anyone has seen it) and so you literally lose sight of them. But where the train has eventually stopped short of the platform, they’re obviously walked a little bit down to do it.

Just horrendous. The ambulances and the police were still coming half an hour later. At least 10. I was still stood on the platform in disbelief.

Horrific really. Albeit I didn’t see the impact so I suppose that’s a relief. Just can’t help but feel awfully sad for the person to have done that. I’ve been there many years ago and it’s a lonely old place. Thankfully I was stopped before the worst happened by a random bloke who I can still picture clear as day. Never even got his name to thank him. I then went off to uni and got better. Funny how stuff like tonight makes you think.

Sorry to hear that, mate. I witnessed the same a few months ago at Kettering, horrendous, as you say. I felt sorry for the driver involved, who was, understandably, in absolute bits. The person involved ran towards the train before being hit, so he literally saw it unfold in front of him.

I didn't sleep well for a while afterward as I kept getting flashbacks, and I had to get some help to deal with it.

Take care mate and please talk it through with people, even trained professionals if it has brought things flooding back.

As for the poor guy tonight, we are coming to the time of year where people are usually at breaking point more than at any other. Christmas is heavily lauded but can be fecking miserable for some and act as a reminder of what they've lost or never had.

RIP.

Really sorry to hear this mate, it's good that you shared it. It seems horrifically common these days. I was waiting at the station to pick my lad up yesterday and his train was delayed because something similar had happened in the north west. All I could think of was 'that's somebody's son, daughter etc who isn't going home'.

I found a young guy in tears on the edge of a bridge a few years back and was able to persuade him to come and have a coffee with me instead of whatever he was planning. On the way we met a paramedic who took care of him. I often wonder where he is now and what happened.

If anyone feels like that, please speak to someone, there is always another way. Today's massive problems can be overcome however desperate things seem.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Should feel more sorry for the driver. That takes some toll.

Hope you are ok though, not a nice thing to be a part of.

Well done for being strong and aware enough to seek help. That requires courage as blokes (certainly this one) are schooled to ‘man up, deal with it, not be a wimp, show a little backbone’ etc. Bit stupid really. In fact, very stupid.

I would add to the title of this thread that perhaps people should be a little kinder to each other. It costs nothing and life is short.

Argh. That sucks Rommers.
Remember that it's ok not to feel ok about this stuff.
Feeling wobbly for a day or two is completely natural. If you start getting to weeks, seek a little support.
A terrible business for all concerned.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Very sad to hear that, not something easily forgotten. Two people I knew committed suicide. One was a former work colleague and the other the husband of a relative. Neither of whom you could guess that they would do what they did. Not being able to see your way out of a situation is horrendous and unfortunately unless these people are able to talk about what is going on it is often impossible to see what may happen to them or be able to help or get help. Keep safe yourself and if you need some help to get over it please seek it out.

I’m no expert but I’m guessing that someone who sees suicide as their only option isn’t really of sound mind to consider other peoples feelings.

Should feel more sorry for the driver - what a thing to say.
