Line up for tomorrow? 10:12 - Aug 7 with 1448 views_clive_baker_

Hard one to call, arguably none of the back 4 are nailed on as O'Shea could start RB with Woolf inside. Or Johnson or Young at RB, O'Shea in the middle either with Kipre or Greaves next to him. Is Davis fit? Does Young start LB, or maybe Greaves.

CM pretty obvious you would think, Matusiwa next to Taylor.

Does Hutchinson start? Probably not. If not can Ogbene? Or maybe Johnson does on that right side role. Szmodics in the 10, or maybe Chappers. Clarke left? Hirst up top of course.

Fixture list isn't very kind given the work we still need to do. Assuming Davis & Philogene are out I think I would go a touch pragmatic given the nature of the occasion with:

Palmer
Young O'Shea Kipre Greaves
Matusiwa Taylor
Johnson Szmodics Clarke
Hirst

Worry there is you'd need your full backs to play 90 or you reshuffle your backline during the game (which is never ideal). Because of that you might see one of O'Shea or Greaves shift wide to give us a solid base, but far from ideal.

Think there is also a chance you'd see Chaplin in there if no Leif as otherwise it's a pretty much new team from our last campaign at this level.

I reckon Philogene makes it to start, get an hour out of him before taking him off.

2-0 away win, Hirst with 1, Clarke with the other.

Why would O'Shea start at RB when Johnson and Young are both available?

Clarke Szmodics Broadhead(Philogene if fit)

O'Shea/Greaves will be our long term partnership so I can see us wanting to avoid playing Greaves at LB. I think Davis will make the bench, anyway.

3-1 us.

If Philogene doesn't make it then a Young/Johnson right flank probably makes sense. But the only department of the team you've listed there that really looks OK to me is centre-forward, and perhaps centre mid if Taylor is on song. We really have so much to do. I'd grab a point tomorrow right now, not because I think they'll come out and steamroller us but because I'd just like it out of the way.

I don't think he will, hence the line up I put. Just saying its an option and a role he's done previously for us.

I don't think Broadhead will play; not with the move to Wrexham in place. He won't want to risk injury, we won't want to risk injury. And there's no point starting Philogene if there are any doubts surrounding him. There are 45 games to go after this one.

McKenna could be playing mind games, of course, and both Davis and Philogene start.

No doubt a lot of work to do, and while we're nowhere near as strong as we would like to be at this stage we've still got a good side. In Davis & Philogene its injuries as much as recruitment. Certainly wish we had 1 more in CM and another #9 though for tomorrow. Hirst will have run his race 70-80 minutes and we're really lacking depth there.

That said I wouldn't swap Birmingham's squad for ours. I'd take a point on the road but still fancy us.

Tend to agree but not sure about the full backs.

Would like to see Young & Humphreys Friday evening.

Going to be interesting how we line up next Tuesday with, presumably, a second eleven.

probably in the ten, but if not wide right,

the only main issue would be left back if Davis is not fit. I would see Young starting there with johnson oshea and greaves making up the rest of the defence

We surely go with what we have in keepers and CBs, unless one moves on? I consider these to be areas of strength / depth / solidity. I have more confidence in RB starting options of Young / Johnson than I do CM too personally, but agree there's lots more work to do than I'd hoped (or envisaged for this day of the window, honestly).

Wouldn't take a draw but I get why plenty would.

If we're starting Ben Johnson RM / RW in the Championship then we're in for a long season.

Don't get me wrong its not a longer term solution and I can't see it being something we'll do very often, but its not out of the question tomorrow with the uncertainty over Hutchinson and Ogbene coming back from injury. One of our toughest looking games tomorrow night on paper, I don't think its the worst option for the first hour as a bit of a pragmatic approach.

I was about to say ...

It's not Real Madrid, it's Birmingham! Respect them by all means but we have far too much proven Championship quality to even consider starting Johnson at RW.

We won't risk Leif, so I too think Young at LB, there is a point where McKenna may feel Greaves is better suited there based on the type of threat Birmingham have on their right side (I really know nothing about them being honest).

Omari is a ~£40m asset that it's likely we're prepared to sell, McKenna has intimated we'll let him go, but the club need to maximise their position too. I know McKenna said he'd be involved, but I don't think we'll actually end up risking that sum of money when he could get injured in that game.

I think

Don't think Ogbene looks match fit yet if I'm honest, so can't see him starting. Then I think perhaps if Young is at LB, it may be more useful having Szmodics on the left to start as he's more supportive than Clarke imo.

That would put Chaplin in the middle.

All very difficult to judge isn't it.

Really worried about how our midfield is going to hold up.

Birmingham will put out 2 of Paik Iwata or Doyle which is really good.

I think Leif will make it, just the way KM spoke about it echoed previous examples where players ended up playing
