McCarthy: Taylor Can Leave
Saturday, 2nd Aug 2014 17:33

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that striker Paul Taylor is available for transfer or loan having been left out of the Blues’ 21-man squad at Leyton Orient today.

“He’s available for transfer or loan. He won’t be playing for me,” McCarthy said afterwards. “He’s not for me.

"That was made clear at the end of last season, so I’m not saying anything that I haven’t already said and it’s not ‘shock, horror, that’s a good story’ because that was the case last season.

“I thought that I’d have a look at it, assess it. He came back really fit, he’s a had a go, but he’s just not for me.”

Taylor, 26, joined Town from Peterborough for an initial fee of £1.5 million in the summer of 2012 but, having suffered a serious foot injury soon after signing, has been unable to break into the first team on a regular basis.

Sooner he leaves, the better, so he can move on and we can move on and free up some wage budget

I agree with mick on most things but this one I think he has messed up to be honest, yes he's not the best player out there or in out squad but he is an attacking player who can make things happen he doesn't mind having ago I have always liked Taylor and to be honest I don't think he has ever been given much game time or a run of games to prove himself. Mick said he come back fit and rating to go and would give him a clean slate but has hardly played him that much in preseason to dismiss him like that has he? I really feel for Taylor I think he is a good player and deserves a chance mick should be fair to everyone and treat them equal it's not fair having favourites like tabb when it's not the best option for the team I feel!

I don't know how many times I need to say this, but a player gets his chance to impress every day through training, if he's not impressing there why the hell should he be in the team? That's been Taylor's problem rather than Mick not liking his style of play, does it not occur to anyone that he might be a massive d*ck that doesn't do enough to prove his worth? Seems pretty obvious considering his 'history'.

Everyone keeps saying Mick is wrong about this, but from what ive heard and seen, he is very hot and cold player

Sometimes he will play brilliantly then he will go missing all game

Mick has seen a lot more of him than us and with a mixture of his poor training and probably bad attitude, has decided he aint good enough - which i dont see how anyone can argue any different

In Mick We Trust!!!

Agreed ^^ prefer him to tabb anyday. Mick needs to stop this favoritism. Taylor is the exact type of player we need. This had a horrible sign of being another "get an early goal an sit back the rest of the game" season. Hope I'm wrong :/

On his way to Blackpool as we speak!

The team spirit Mick has installed comes from 100% effort and commitment in all senses. I suggest Paul Taylor doesn't meet this criteria as his ability isn't in doubt. Attitude, commitmen?!? We can speculate all day but the fact is MM works with PT day in day out and as much as I liked Taylor as a footballer I back Mick on the decisions we pay him and trust him to make.

It was always looking likely that he would be going . Probably a good saving on wages , but let's hope we get something for him or use him in a swap deal

As supporters we can only speculate? He suffered a serious injury soon after signing and after he regained his fitness he hasn't played enough to really judge his ability. Whether it is lack of ability or attitude? Big Mick doesn't rate him so best for all concerned he moves on. I wish him all the best wherever he ends up.

His value in the transfer market is a big fat zero. He's also on big wages so he's likely to go on loan with us still picking up a big part of his wages. What a waste!

He's been told he can leave because he is an arse. Simple as really. Never made the grade at ITFC, huge amount of money wasted and surprise surprise it was another of PJ's "quality" signings.

Total disaster since we signed him.

Better for him and us when he's gone.

I thought only a couple of weeks ago Mick was praising him on his pre-season training!? - so what has happened between now and then? - pretty obvious to me that they don't get on, I don't think it's got too much to do with what goes on on the pitch. So the squad just gets stronger :)

The type of player who needs an arm round his shoulder, MM has never given him this. I'd question MM's man management on this one personally. Sure Taylor has been inconsistent and has flattered to deceive at times, but I hardly ever heard MM praise Taylor like the others even when he played well.

...probably all about 'freeing up' the wage bill as well, which all of a sudden had become an issue at the club.

The last of P.J's expensive gambles.... wrong player for our club, just didn't work out for everyone, nevermind.

I think MM game him a chance to impress in training, he clearly hasn't and has impressed even less in his few chances. Not really surprised! Be good to move him on, I've had enough of these types of character at PR.

MM is a really straight bloke. Whilst its a pity Taylor hasn't worked out, clearly its not because MM hates talented players. Talent is pointless if its not effective and I cant recall a single game where Taylor has really made a difference and for a player costing £1.5m that's not good enough. I have to say that the evidence even prior to him arriving at PR is he's not exactly a model pro. Jet was outrageously talented, but without him we had our best season since Jim was in charge. I'd take a Jon Walters over a JET any day, and JW is a player MM would have loved. What MM has created is a great team ethic and team spirit with no cash and he is clearly determined to make sure that's not undermined or risked by the likes of taylor

I'm amused by this idea that a football manager shouldn't have favourites. Football is a game of opinions & ultimately the manager's opinion is what matters when it comes to team selection, hence his favourite XI start games.

Although I appreciate most on here love Taylor I personally fail to see why. Yes, he has some much needed quality, but Micks teams are built on team work and hard work. Taylor has failed to demonstrate either. Therefore I see it as no surprise that he will move on and frankly the sooner the better. This has been dragging for a while. Taylor has unfortunately been a disruptive influence since he signed, letting himself and the club down pretty much immediately. Unlucky with the injury yes, but poor attitude is his fault. I wish him well, but time for all parties to move on.

Hopefully we will sign a permanent attack minded midfielder with the money saved on wages. Will be interesting to see who will take him.
