Abuse certainly but bottles? Give it a rest Mick we ain’t Millwall & you know it.

Shocking that the police made that up really. Was probably just a few lads singing anti McCarthy songs outside the Griffin & they sh1t themselves.

id argue then, why put the story on here?

if hes gone, and nobody cares, why are we being informed of it?

Many fans keep asking for "their club back" but incidents like that continue to taint us in the eyes of the football world - moving us further away from the 'family club' that those very people seem to hark back to.

We can all agree the last 18-24 months of the MM era weren't enjoyable, but denying that fans actions have consequences, and being perennial victims, is nonsense. We had a role in him leaving earlier than he and the owner would have preferred and some evidently went too far in pursuit of it, tarnishing what he did for us when things were at an even worse juncture.

It's relevant because it had an impact. The impact you wanted.

He didn’t exactly say that did he, it was the police, and he still wanted to go out that way but to save hassle listened to police advice.

Mick knows how to put himself in the limelight, how to remind people he is still around and available.Nothing in this at all. IF the police felt fans with beer bottles in their hands, if that is true, then they would have taken action.

Shame on Phil for deciding the story was worthy of TWTD.

oh no, I mean the police considered it - our own fans did too.

I just cant see a world where any Ipswich fan, drunk or not, would have done this.

afterall, the police are occasionally wrong aren't they, trained professionals or not

To be fair, you also couldn't see a couple of days ago why a bunch of Ipswich fans, having had a few beers, would object to having a flag obscure their view of the pitch a couple of minutes before the start of the biggest game of the season.

It's amazing what blokes will do after a few beers.

Although "bottling" means chucking a bottle in someone's face. We're talking here about someone lobbing a bottle 30-40 yards (I assume) in the general direction of someone they obviously hate.

Also bear in mind, these are no doubt London coppers and probably just doing everything they can to avoid a situation getting inflamed.

wouldn't know about that, so cant comment really.

however, Mick needs to calm down, as he said, he wouldn't give a toss either way if the beer came or not..... why did he even bother talking about it...... maybe to keep his name in the frame

Exactly- clearly fake news- where on earth would fans get bottles from- the old dinosaur is out of work and is sulking.

purely because if it was me under the flag i'd have thought it was quality that fans had done this, and also known that it wouldn't remain all game....

It's still pretty tragic hanging around just so you can shout abuse at a bloke who's already lost his job, though.

I don't know what Benters has down voted this for, giving a bloke who's lost his job grief even after you've hounded him out of his job is dickish behaviour on the same spectrum of dickery as, telling people with cancer that they haven't tried hard enough, say.

The whole flag debate is just depressing and reminds me why English football will never be as enjoyable as it is across Europe.

We have the most sterile football experience possible and yet many still moan it's too bad.

Are you always like this or does Mick just consume you that much that you lose reality? Mick is our former manager so he in talked about. If you look keane is also being talked about today despite despite nearly destroying the club. Burley is talked about and so is sir Bob. We tend not to see much for John Duncan though

Duncan won a second-tier league game for Ipswich in less time than it is taking Paul Hurst to do so...

I imagine he is telling the truth about police advice to go out the back door, anything he says about what happened inside the ground is true.

I know Brentford staff were a bit shocked by the levels of vitriol and he definitely left via a back exit and was escorted to the coach due to fans who were waiting for him, armed with bottles or otherwise.

Ah, I'm not sure it's as bad as all that. People have to get used to new things. I'm sure most of us would have responded similarly.

As I've suggested before, when I saw it on the day I did think "that looks great - but christ, I'm glad I'm not behind it".
