Abuse certainly but bottles? Give it a rest Mick we ain’t Millwall & you know it.

Shocking that the police made that up really. Was probably just a few lads singing anti McCarthy songs outside the Griffin & they sh1t themselves.

Especially those that were there.

I imagine he is telling the truth about police advice to go out the back door, anything he says about what happened inside the ground is true.

I imagine he is too. And yes, it taints the club, as it taints all society. But even's Mick's reporting of it is in adversarial language. And while there is no excusing of the worse from the worst, he chose to engage with that faction, giving them something to bite on.

I know many have said that's his right, but others, including me, say that the position and the responsibility demands better. He doesn't need to overpaint his C.V. - his best qualities are beyond dispute.

That all makes perfect sense, good post but there is a but...

He possibly could have ignored it to some extent and possibly maybe should have tried to ignore it but I can imagine that a lot of people would have found it very difficult to ignore-I think I certainly would have.

My only real complaint about the way that MM handled the situation was that he did not make it clear often enough with his seemingly blanket coverage of all fans in his quotes that he was only referring to the idiots that, in my view, deserved anything that was said about them and any labels that were applied to them.

I have said on here many times that I felt shame a number of times at being in the same stand or ground as those people in case MM and his players thought that we were all like that.

The only 'new' disclosure by Mick is that Barnsley was always going to be his last game. The incident at Brentford therefore didn't influence his decision.

We have our element of idiotic fans but if you compiled a list of clubs least likely to do this we'd be up there.

As you've alluded to, it was more likely a few fans standing around with bottles of Bud singing 'Mick McCarthy, Your Football Is Sh*t' and Police or Stewards have decided that this constituted a threat.

We all know had Mick walked past a word would not have even been said to him, even after a few beers. The brave 'lads' signing disgusting songs about him during the game were about 15.

This seems to be an overzealous official has decided something 'might' happen, there's no need to take the 1% chance as there is another exit and it's been turning into a baying mob of fans with smashed bottles ready to maim McCarthy.

Just what we need.

Idiotic fans certainly, but scumbags I don't think so. I would imagine it was young lads having a beer outside the ground, fairly intoxicated just singing anti Mick songs which was very common at the time. But I really cant see Town fans throwing bottles and beer over our own representatives, like you said, wed be one of them towards the top of least likely to do this sort of thing.

I blame MM for bringing this up though, the police just taking precautions and warning him about what they feel. But like MM said, he went out the back door so he never actually saw any of these supposed bottle throwers and beer throwers so why does he feel the need to bring this up.

I was glad to get away from the ground after the game!

If fans were fighting fans how many arrests were made that day?

I need an experienced and dignified man for the job.

I don't want to come downstairs onto the west terrace for breakfast to see a shirtless cockney oik trimming back my hedges with an electric bread knife.

I know Brentford staff were a bit shocked by the levels of vitriol and he definitely left via a back exit and was escorted to the coach due to fans who were waiting for him, armed with bottles or otherwise.

Why describe them as "armed" with bottles? How do you know their intentions? They might simply have been drinking from them?

The difference is that we are members of the public whose entrance fees and buying of club merchandise was helping to pay his salary. He is supposed to be a professional and able to rise above daft football fans being daft, which kinda goes with the territory.

Edit - completely agree with your seond para btw.
