Abuse certainly but bottles? Give it a rest Mick we ain’t Millwall & you know it.

Shocking that the police made that up really. Was probably just a few lads singing anti McCarthy songs outside the Griffin & they sh1t themselves.

"...armed with bottles or otherwise".

[armed with bottles] or otherwise.

"Or otherwise".

O R O T H E R W I S E

Nowhere has Phil said anyone was armed with bottles.

I can't believe this needs spelling out to any of you. This is basic English.

The only 'new' disclosure by Mick is that Barnsley was always going to be his last game. The incident at Brentford therefore didn't influence his decision.

It was only going to be his last game because of Brentford. What he means is it wasn't an off the cuff decision to end his time in the press conference but had been planned with ME beforehand, which I think was known. Bryan Klug had been asked to take over a day or so before that.

Why describe them as "armed" with bottles? How do you know their intentions? They might simply have been drinking from them?

I said "armed with bottles or otherwise", meaning whether or not they were armed with bottles Brentford staff were surprised by the levels of abuse and anger. I wasn't in a position to see whether that was the case re bottles, was in the ground until well after Mick would have departed.

Agenda = hating Mick.

No-one says "I'm going to a game to throw bottles at the manager" but it can be a heat of the moment thing... particularly after sinking a few.

Were you with the exact same crowd hurling abuse?

Why were you with them nearly all day but not the game itself?

So many questions, so little time.

Like Textbackup, I have also been to hundreds of games. Many of those games have included throwing abuse at rival fans, which is either your thing or it isn't - but at least it's (rightly or wrongly) part of 'supporting' your club.

However, this was different. There was a significant number of different groups (not just the one group that Textbackup seems to suggest he was drinking with all day), and those groups were turning on each other, on other fans, threatening those who showed any disapproval.

I'm big and thick enough to not be shocked or offended by anything I hear at football, but this was different from anything else I have witnessed, and I have no doubt that if some of those were in the vicinity of MM whilst drinking from bottles, it would not have taken much for those bottles to have been thrown. They looked as though they had lost control and were a particularly nasty and ugly set of people. It was not a proud day to be a Town fan.

I have no doubt that the police thought there was a risk, and if asked a question, I can see no problem with MM giving an honest answer

It was a very memorable day but for all the wrong reasons.
I know that because of those people a little bit of my wishing to be associated with ITFC died that day-that is not being overly dramatic, it is the truth.

Sorry if its already been said but not gonna read through 8 pages just to say this...

This is all based on someone telling MM that there were fans waiting to throw bottles at him, maybe MM would believe me if I told him I sh1t gold!!! I don't buy into this at all, let someone be guilty of the offence before making allegations, all he has done is tarnish us with no substance to his claim and that's bang out of order!

Well, I suppose technically he hasn't made any allegations against Town fans. He has said the police told him that there was a risk and so got him out the back door. Of course, he MIGHT be lying but, as I say, seeing the way a number of idiots that day had worked themselves up into unstoppable rage, I think it's highly likely that the police did think the risk was there. Can't see why they would say that if it wasn't.

Those who were there will have witnessed these individuals, and I have no idea why anyone would want to defend them. There was nothing even remotely defensible about any of them that day. Turning on individual fans, individual players and the manager - why would any Town supporter not condemn them?

Some people can't handle their booze, or their emotions. Combine that with a lack of intelligence and general sense of dissatisfaction in life and it's no surprise that there are a few who behave like badly trained apes.

Lol... I was with them, before and after. Didn’t go to the game, as he was the manager and I found watching ITFC under him a painful experience.

Anyway, nobody was going to chuck bottles at him. Police and drip fans shouldn’t have worried.
Actually, of all the sht that happened that day not once has a single fan suggested bottle chucking was a likely outcome, few nasty songs granted, but never a mention of these bottle lobbing nutters

A couple of years ago I would never believe Town fans would be close to verbally abusing their own players and manager so there you go.

A few choruses of "Burley,Burley sort it out" or whatever was as far as it used to go.

ITFC somehow managed to acquire some real idiots that follow them, whether that is because society has changed or the type of people that follow ITFC has changed I do not know but either way it is nothing to be proud of.

I know Brentford staff were a bit shocked by the levels of vitriol and he definitely left via a back exit and was escorted to the coach due to fans who were waiting for him, armed with bottles or otherwise.

Come on Phil I was with many fans when the Ipswich players were getting on the coach.....at no time was a bottle going to be thrown at anyone even McCarthy. It was a friendly atmosphere unlike the feeling watching the game behind the goal. How can you squash this ridiculous statement.

I find this comment so sad that a supporter of so many years standing should feel this way,
I used to be proud to be a town supporter sometimes I'm embarrassed the incessant use of the C word all and sundry on the pitch being labeled a paedophile it pathetic and a sad reflection on how our great club and society has degenerated over the past few years.

Having read pages 7 & 8 they have completely nothing further to add!!

I get the impression a few....well 3 may think I am condoning a certain number of fans actions on that night, just be assured that in no way was I or indeed am I and again if that is the case you have taken me completely out of context! The point being MM was told it, I wasn't there to see the fans as some of you were and I believe you all that given the tension then potentially something may have happened but the upshot of it for me is it didn't and again for me there was absolutely no need for MM to mention our fans wanting to throw bottles at him, word like "very hostile" or "angry crowd" were waiting would be far more acceptable in my eyes, what he said puts us in a bad light and when nothing happened that's unfair to all us sensible fans!

My post might well look overly dramatic but it really is the truth.
I used to be proud to be part of the ITFC support, particularly at away games, but what happened off the pitch over a period of about 18 months has changed that and I do not see how I can ever get that sense of pride back.
Although the support is fine at the moment I know that some of the people at our games are the very people that made me feel how I do.

PJH I think the feelings we had for our club over many seasons have been eroded by the obscene amount of money in football and the aggressive vitriol that people can use on social media spilling over to match days.

Maybe you are from the time period I am, when patience was understood, a team was built steadily over a few years and you could see that the team was/is capable of progressing into something good!

Now its most wanting everything yesterday!! Pity they don't see that technology maybe be super fast but understanding humans will always take time and that's what our team is doing at the moment, getting to understand how they all play.

I imagine I'm a fair bit younger than you old guys, but I just want to chip in and say that most people of my generation wouldn't find it acceptable to behave that way either, especially stuff like chanting that the manager is a child abuser .

Yes, it is a shame that their behavior reflects badly on everyone.

I fully understand that just because the idiots were very vocal at Brentford and elsewhere not everyone that is vocal is an idiot.

As I said somewhere earlier in this thread I just hope that MM and his players understood that we were not all like those people.
