Not surprising at all, I've tried to point out that we are where Italy was a few weeks ago previously.
The numbers are also laggy for various reasons. The cases everywhere are likely higher than the official numbers.
I believe Japan closed schools for two months?
Edit: Just listening to radio 4 and it seems ridiculous that a multi day event with people coming and going each day from around the country like the Cheltenham Festival is being allowed to go ahead.

Foreign office has said only essential travel. Do I have to cancel the holiday now myself? I take it I'm entitled to a full refund. I've got travel insurance as well, do I have to go through that? |  |

ATOL but not ABTA as far as I can tell, it was a Hotel + Flight through lastminute (who I will never use again, truly awful customer service).
Stupidly did not do it through the credit card, lesson learned there.
Not like I'm going to on the breadline if I don't get the money back immediately so time isn't an issue if it takes a month or so to get the refund. | |

I think you'll get it all back as it's the Italian government preventing access. I just don't think the FO advice has been updated for the events last night yet.

Depends did you buy it from a travel agent in the UK, if yes then you will be protected.
If you purchased via the internet then that is causing a lot of problems as a lot of companies on the internet are registered in foreign countries and then different rules however if you used a credit card then you'll have protection there |  | | |

I think that meant the morning advice. Either way their advice is you should be in line with the Italian controls which are countrywide now.
I'd take that to mean you can claim your money back.

Celebrity Cruises have tightened their restriction on boarding. Now barred from boarding if you have been to places like Italy within the last 20 days.
If you have been to France, Germany or Spain in the 20 days prior to boarding a more detailed mandatory medical check will be carried out. Same applies if you have had any contact with anyone who visited those Countries in last 20 days. This last restriction applies to Caribbean cruises only.

We are going on a cruise where a company has chartered the boat, while Celebrity have offered to reschedule any cruise for anyone who is concerned the charter company are saying no refund for cancellation and no transfer to alternative date.
Had to book flight separately so that isn’t refundable unless the UK government advises citizens not to travel to USA then insurance would cover it. | |

Though if other countries have diffferent advice, its fair to question. its also fair to question whether this Government actually follows the advice, and whether it would be honest about whether it is doing so or not. |

Agree. UK govt seems way out of line with others.
I was just talking on the phone to a friend who is coming back from Italy several days early due to the lockdown. Supposed to self-help. Their attitude? "We'll avoid our usual pubs and just go to places that don't know us for two weeks". Utterly irresponsible. |  | | |
