Ignore what about Sweden? That they have a higher death toll than their neighbouring countries? https://www.ft.com/content/5eb0a90b-ceb5-4441-9456-e30f9a2a7028 "the right decisions at the right time" sounds very similar to our Government's soundbites doesn't it?

And at the time that was a correct tweet. But it changed in early February. So there’s a month at least before lockdown that whatteraboutery won’t justify.

My favourite soundbite is “the curve is starting to flatten” despite the fact our daily death rates are still far too high considering the warning we had. The glass is indeed half full in the daily briefings. Also how long has Johnson been off work now?

The levels of mad left wingery on here is going through the roof in these times. Blame the lying communists running China for this mess and the WHO with their duff advice through until March. They are the people to be angry with. |
If you think any attempt at holding the government to account for their incompetence potentially leading to more deaths is "mad left wingery", then I'd suggest you only like democracy when it suits you. And, the bad WHO advice was given out on 14th January and dispelled afterwards - they then called it a pandemic at the end of the month. Boris' failures were in February so whichever way you dress it up, he's failing. [Post edited 18 Apr 2020 22:02]

They’ve been getting away for it for years. And will carry on. I’m starting to think mass scale civil disobedience is the only way anything in this country will change for the better. |

Why not! Its standard journalistic policy that you verify your sources before publishing. Especially when dealing with a country with a track record like China, and even more so when you’re disseminating something that could guide worldwide responses.

As far as I'm aware, the Chinese didn't force us not to bother sourcing any PPE until too late or decide not to join in Europe-wide initiatives to source vital pieces of kit.

Johnson may well have been distracted by matters in his personal life during his stay in the countryside. Aides were told to keep their briefing papers short and cut the number of memos in his red box if they wanted them to be read. His family needed to be prepared for the announcement that Symonds, who turned 32 in March, was pregnant and that they had been secretly engaged for some time. Relations with his children had been fraught since his separation from his estranged wife Marina Wheeler and the rift deepened when she had been diagnosed with cancer last year. The divorce also had to be finalised. Midway through the break it was announced in the High Court that the couple had reached a settlement, leaving Wheeler free to apply for divorce. There were murmurings of frustration from some ministers and their aides at the time that Johnson was not taking more of a lead. But Johnson’s aides are understood to have felt relaxed: he was getting updates and they claim the scientists were saying everything was under control. Couldn’t he have just got a Harley or a Convertible, or gone travelling for a bit for his midlife crisis?

The sad thing is, I don't think any of the will make a difference. Since June 2016 we've been infected with the same lunacy as the US. People will vote for the Tories regardless of anything because they've been conditioned to hate Labour, just like people in the US will vote for Trump regardless of the fact that he's the biggest fückwit you could imagine. The levels of cognitive dissonance make me wonder whether there is any hope for these people. You only have to look at all the morons complaining about Keir Starmer being wealthy, completely ignoring the fact that Boris isn't exactly a pauper, to see something is deeply deeply wrong.

The other thing is you have people pointing and laughing at Trump with his fake news stuff and treatment of the media, then turning round and getting the hump with others being critical of our government because apparently it’s a disgrace to question those in power. British Nationalism is a very strange and dangerous thing.

It’s literally all the tell tale signs a sociopath is running the country. How have they managed to fool so many people? It’s verging on cult like. I think some of the public would drink the Kool-Aid for Johnson, Farage, Robinson, Hopkins and Trump. Especially Trump actually, he’s literally mobilising the armed right wing in democratic states. I fear they won’t have any of what democracy they had left when this is done. Feels like the setting for a civil war. Actually I think Trump’s “take the medicine it won’t hurt” stuff was him testing the waters of his total control. I thought he was an idiot but actually he may be the second coming of Jim Jones. But worryingly rather than leading a reasonably sized cult compound in the name of God he’s in charge of an entire country with nukes in the name of money. I could do without these late night realisations. They’re depressing now. [Post edited 19 Apr 2020 2:03]
