Wold have to agree. I have defended this Government so far, but they really are making a pigs ear of it now. PPE shouldn't be this difficult to get hold of. I am not saying Corbyn would have done a better job, but this Government is proving it isn't up to the job.

Well played... I'd also like to add that if Starmer or Corbyn or whoever had made the same mistakes I'd be equally displeased. I'm glad that there are people on both sides who can acknowledge success and failure without focussing on the colour of their rosette

I am neither Labour or Conservative. As I have said on here before, I vote for who I think is best for the Country at the time. Johnson was the best of a bad bunch.

The last election was the worst set of choices we've ever had for PM. Corbyn performed well in 2017 but failed to kick on and ran a pretty terrible campaign last year, Johnson's behaviour in the last few years has been based around appealing to people's worst instincts and Swinson's revoke policy was arrogant.

I'm Labour but live in a Tory/LD marginal so voted and campaigned for the LDS... our candidate (and ex MP) is on the left of the party and supported a vote rather than revoke which i was more comfortable with. But if I was in a constituency where the Labour candidate was someone like McDonnell or Burgon i'd have likely just voted for the Greens

I'd say Comrade Corbyn v Maybot and Cameron v Millipede in 2015 was a pretty poor line up.

Boris has personality. Starmer is probably the most boring man in the country. He makes Milliband look like Hurricane Higgins.

You're the most boring person in the country.

Jimmy Bullard is a “personality” - maybe he is qualified to be PM then!

From what I saw I thought KS was very good. Broadly supportive of the government but challenging them on issues where he believed they needed challenging.

Far from "running rings around the Tories" I thought his performance was measured and forensic when it was needed. Certainly not playing politics for the sake of politics.

Very impressed with KS today and it's good to see the grown ups in charge of the opposition after the sh1tshow of the Corbyn years.

Labour needed to appoint a leader that ticked a minimum of 2 of these 4 boxes if they wanted to win the next election.

1 Not representing a London constituency

2 Female

3 Non white

4 Not someone who represents the establishment.

Sir Keir Starmer didn’t manage to tick any of them.

Just a personal opinion.

He will have four years of taking Johnson apart and forensically exposing his vacuous buffoonery before the next election though.

Anyone who thinks that the supply chain with PPE isn't anything but like something from the Wild West at the moment is an absolute dumber.

Plane loads are being gazumped on the runway and redirected, government officials down to factory owners are counting the dollars by the fistful in bribes.

Nothing has ever been in such demand worldwide ever. EVER!

Agreed, it’s obviously insanely difficult to get hold of.

It does confuse me a bit that we’ve managed to find British companies to make enough mechanical ventilators but not enough to make face masks and gowns though.

Is that because the raw materials are also in short supply?

Numerous stories of people offering to help but being ignored and subsequently exporting their stocks doesn’t help the government’s case either, although I’m sure those numbers are small in the grand scheme of things.

Government is inundated with people saying they can get them 10,000 of this or 10,000 of that. Considering they need to batch test everything it's useless.

What they need is to be able to (with the help of existing private enterprise) start rolling out things by the thousands and thousands every hour and it's not that straightforward.

Unless of course you're on TWTD sitting in your pants with a beer in your hand.

Interesting, ta. Yeah, I can see how it’s not effective to deal with such small amounts when the required volumes are in the billions.

I can take my pants off if that helps? I’m not putting my beer down though.

I don't know how much of the stuff we need a day but someone put a link up here to a BBC report maybe yesterday and it was eye watering.

If on a normal day on a normal week of the year UK PLC put an order in for that amount it would raise eyebrows in the production factories. Consider multiplying that with every other country in the world and at the end of the day it is simply impossible.

It's basic maths. It's impossible.

Except that's assuming all equipment would be, or is, coming from a limited source.

There is no reason the UK, or any country, cannot look within its own industry.

There are hundreds of thousands of gloves, aprons, masks being made somewhere daily.

I have no idea of the figures regarding how many firms have approached the government or how many, if indeed any, have been approached.

Without specifics it's impossible to know. But firms have allegedly come forward and not been asked what they can offer.

Hypothetically I have a factory in Leicester or Rochdale or Wembley. Send me samples, give me the specifications and I will let you know if I can help.

If cotton can be melt blown to be of use to a layer in a face mask then they'll be just as useful as one made in Turkey.

These people make clothing all day for M&S, Debenhams, New Look...they're not amateurs. Why are other countries suddenly the only potential sources or Burberry, as an example. Not that masks are of great help but all staff need them anyway.

Aprons have to be repellent. Ok, so is it the fabric that is in short supply or the manpower to make them?

Quality control is performed on every line anyway and again, there's no reason why batch checking can only be performed if items come from a source outside of this country. The rules are the same. So is the suggestion we're short of batch checkers?

Speculation is no use if we are starved of information, which we do seem to be.

If materials are in short supply then it would be nice to be told. The lack of detail suggests they are relying on known sources and not using their imagination. So much for the wartime rhetoric and not employing every doorstep opportunity.

I maintain I doubt our officials would know where to look for help outside of names they're familiar with.
