Disgraceful from the Deputy CMO 16:32 - May 23 with 4471 viewsm14_blue

All trust in those managing our response to the pandemic, and any pretence at maintaining lockdown, sacrificed for Dominic Cummings’s job.

Absolutely despicable.

A shameless undermining of their own rules to protect one man. Absolutely no shred of integrity or backbone between the lot of them, which was obvious before, but never shown so blatantly and openly.

It shows up the utter contempt they have for the public - as long as them and their mates are alright then fck everyone else and have a good old chuckle about it when they get called out.

And they continue to get away with it.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Couldn’t disagree more.

She gave carte blanche to anyone to do pretty much whatever they want.

Yes it was a difficult position for her but she’s in a very senior position and if they aren’t willing to stand up to the politicians then they shouldn’t be in that position. Or at the very least said she wasn’t willing to take part in that press conference.

How can anyone take any notice of anything any of them say now?

Totally agree, their credibility is in shreds if they don’t react to this.

I thought so too. A model performance from a Civil Servant.

You were left to draw your own inferences from what she said.

shapps has lots of previous. 'According to shapps' he was left in a coma for a week after a car accident in the USA - so there's no independent evidence of that.

In 2012, Google blacklisted 19 of the Shapps's business websites for violating rules on copyright infringement related to the web scraping-based TrafficPayMaster software sold by them.Shapps's web marketing business's 20/20 Challenge publication also drew criticism. It cost $497 and promised customers earnings of $20,000 in 20 days. Upon purchase, the "toolkit" was revealed to be an ebook, advising the user to create their own toolkit and recruit 100 "Joint Venture Partners" to resell it for a share of the profits.

At least twice when standing in elections he used the name Grant V. Shapps, despite not having a middle name at all.

On 28 November 2015, Shapps stood down as minister of state due to allegations of bullying within the Conservative Party. It has been claimed that Shapps, in his previous role as party co-chairman, had ignored repeated allegations of bullying involving Mark Clarke, the then party youth organiser. This episode of alleged bullying led one of the victims to commit suicide.

And then there's the stuff about using pseudonyms to promote dodgy-sounding get rich quick schemes and the stuff about editing his own Wikipedia page to make it flattering.

I say 'flattering', I mean 'marginally less toxic'.

Spelled out the rules ?
Really ?
I'm quite sure that the vast majority have no clue about what the rules are. Unless you are special in which case you can do what the hell you want.

The most telling part from Jenny Harries today was that anyone with the symptoms must self isololate unless "there is extreme risk to life".

If he was so ill that he could not look after his child how did he drive 260 miles. It's disgraceful and he should go

Sitting in a car for five hours that likelihood would be very high, not only for Cummings but his son, anyone they came in contact with on the journey and then in Durham. Indefensible.

So he took his wife with him?

Why not get someone local to get his shopping for him instead of travelling 260 miles to collect it and taking them with him.

And then doing the journey again 2 weeks later.

Will be interesting to see if the general public turn on the government rather than just people who don't like the government. Not a lot of people outside those who are interested in politics know or care about Dominic Cummings, so it's not a given.

Spot on...the outpourings and anger on here don’t reflect life. If Cummings has broken the rules he should resign or be sacked if he hasn’t move on.

Unfortunately about a dozen people on here are convinced any story will bring this govt down. They forget they have an 80 seat majority are 6 months in and dealing with a pandemic not seen for 100 years. Anyway they will enjoy spending their whole Sunday in their underpants posting on here and getting congratulations from their board supporters whilst the rest of us will enjoy BH Sunday.

I agree. The country’s morals, view of fairness and approach to society have been increasingly warped; as long as the individual is fine for many then the rest do no not matter. Those in the North East may, quite understandably, retain a loathing for an individual who decided to drive to their part of the nation whilst potentially carrying a deadly untreatable virus but I think for the majority of the remainder of the country the attitude will be ‘get on with it’, just as it has been regarding Brexit. In fairness, this could just be down to tiredness towards politics and the political class in general but now is really not the time to accept every move and leave them free of scrutiny.

You seem incredibly relaxed about this considering how absolutely fuming you were about someone’s elderly parents going for a walk by the river a little while back.

How come they are selfish idiots and yet you couldn’t care less about the man running the government travelling the length of the country whilst carrying the virus?

Is it because the people in the first example didn’t like Boris? Almost as if all that matters to you is what ‘team’ people are on, not what they do.

Although that would be incredibly hypocritical from someone so obsessed with accusing them left’ of playing politics....

This feels like a potential turning point as well. If people accept the government's ongoing defence of Cummings and now the cries of 'fake news' then we are well and truly screwed.

With all due respect we never went into a lockdown - it was always a pretend lockdown - hence the awful death tolls which continues to this day.

People have always been free to do what they want, whenever they want, public transport continued to run and planes flew in 18 million people with no checks whatsoever.

IF everyone in contact with the disease...ie NHS workers, carers etc had been isolated, IF transport had been stopped... IF people had been prepared to stay at home and not wander off to shops whenever they felt like it and IF people had been forced not to work... then that might have been a lockdown.... especially if enforced two to three weeks earlier than it was.

As I have said if he has broken the rules he should be sacked and shamed publicly, if he hasn’t move on. We still don’t know the full facts and if he is guilty he should be ashamed and never hold a position in Govt again. However if he has broken no rules, sought and given guidance on the actions he has taken then you don’t condemn an innocent person just because you despise his political views.

Fair enough.

He’s obviously broken the rules though, that couldn’t be clearer.
