Central midfielder Flynn Downes is also a target. The 21-year-old fits that criteria of up-and-coming talent, and has been monitored for some time having been one of Ipswich’s star players in League One this season. Ipswich are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of £4 million for the England Under-20 international, who started 31 games for them this season.

£4m sounds about right given where we are and football finances are in general?

There would need to be some significant add-ons in there though and would Downes want to move to simply be loaned out to the Championship?

I'd be sad to see him go whatever the fee, but if we get £4m for him I reckon that's good business for a player with a smattering of good performances in the second tier and a good season in the third tier.

Sadly true. Doesn’t really create, doesn’t really score and there are lots of alternatives out there if you want energy.

He will be in higher demand due to being English so can help those quotas

Would also be good business if Mr Evans gives up maybe 1m of that to reinvest in the squad, would like to think we could get 2 decent young players for that money and build the squad up not spend money on loan players

I'd rather see him go straight to a championship club and flourish.

Would be more likely to get a decent sell on fee in 1-2 years time.

Could disappear in a Prem club and be loaned out for 5 years.

He’s past that stage of his development

Is there a danger he becomes like Garbutt and takes a move and never really plays for them?

Loans not about development just about trying to recoup money at some point if he does well, but not well enough to start in the PL.

Think that’s underselling his ability personally.

Completely accepting that we'll probably lose him this Summer, but really concerned about how limp it will leave our midfield.

Although when Bishop returns next month it might inject some energy.

" Leaving our midfield limp " , totally agree , our midfield is too soft , he's the only one with a bit of bite .

Make him skipper

Not for me, he’s well past that stage now and at worst will go back to Championship for a year if he can’t break in the side

Not too fussed about where he goes or what happens were Flynn to leave. He’s been great for us, I’d sooner he stays as he’s only going to get stronger still, and would always wish him the best should he move, but at the end of the day it’s his decision what is best next.

We just need to be sure when he leaves, that we get value, upfront and in add ons, and that a percentage is reinvested into permanent first team squad improvement. Start to replace squad fillers and loans, with those who push for places (KVY type signings).

The TWTD facebook page is full of loons giving out pre-emptive 'well he's rubbish anyway' blubs.

These are clearly the people who find the Sport on Suffolk phone-in too intellectually challenging.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Any player can have one good season. He's had a good season because he's a talented player. Palace won't be buying him just because he's been in good form. I think £4m is low.

Just need another club to take serious interest , which force the price up.

He will definitely leave before the season starts of that I have n9 doubt. I certainly don’t buy all this “ he’s really happy here”, crap. Of course he’ll go.

No they're buying him because he's a young player with potential. Whether he is good enough for the Prem or not we don't yet know. £4m for a midfielder playing in a mid table League 1 side is decent business. Think we're dreaming if we think we can get more than that.
