Huws ended up being fit for most of last season as well. Of course there's always a chance he gets injured again but he's had a good run of being able to train now, possibly the longest he's had as a pro. Bishop was also available more last season than in previous years. Not saying a lot, but both have better foundations for a less disrupted year this year than they've had in a very long time.

I think it might be a stretch to say Huws was fit for most of last season. Certainly not match fit. But I agree, both look to have their best chance of staying fit than they have for a long time. Fingers crossed.

My point though, and I've added Sears and El Miz into the mix, is that our squad is definitely better than last year. Lambert has no excuses now.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Fit rather than match fit. He was in training for most of the season and featured in the EFL Trophy as early as September or October.

...it could happen I guess.

With the current manager.........?

Mid table at best.

I'll throw it out there as well. Players and manager will get it right this year, we'll be top 6.

Hope you’re right - but I must say “getting it right” will be top 2.

Top 6 with our squad should be expected.

Can we just play some attractive football please?

We are too soft. I think we have some decent players at this level who need our support but we’ve no vocal leadership other than Chambo and maybe Ward. We need an enabler, a leader to get this lot going and keep them going. Someone to do the dirty work. Downes may well grow that side of his game but he’s much more than that as a player.
My guess we may scrape playoffs although a bad start and It goodbye Lambo, so we could still hit the heights under a new boss. But can’t see it with him the last 2 years seem like lots of huffing puffing to do nothing. Happily eat my words!

Either way, a fully fit and firing Emyr Huws is like a new signing to us IMO. I can't actually remember seeing him fully fit. Could be a huge difference, hopefully.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

The only thing I can see in our favour that's any different to last season is we get off to a good start because there's no crowd. After that, pressure, then the usual.

With Lambert in charge?

With Chambers remaining our captain?

With this squad?

Getting off to a good start would in fact exactly parallel last season.

I really don't see it. We haven't tangibly improved on last season's squad and our post-November form was relegation standard.

We’ll be massively improved if we steer clear of injuries ( big if I know)

There was nothing in John Lyall's first season to suggest we'd be promoted, we finished 11th which was worse than John Duncan had done in his years with us. But we kept basically the same squad with a couple of additions and we walked the league the next season. Lambert is not stupid, he's had plenty of time to reflect on what went wrong last season and hopefully he's learnt from that. He's on a long contract and unless it goes properly tits up he will be around for a while so let's get behind him.

No.

Yes.

Yes.

When he goes, I do fear that Evans will just appoint someone equally as useless as Lambert.

Such as Paul Hurst. Or Paul Jewell. Or Roy Keane etc

He almost always gets it wrong so my expectation of a better appointment is slim.

That was my hope too, and there was already some evidence of it in those first two friendlies.

I feel equally confident.

In fact I can't recall being this confident since we appointed Hurst ... or signed Priskin ... or Chopra. ... oh.
