Wuhan Flu 19:35 - Oct 4 with 13476 views | Esteemed_Canon | So yet another weekend has passed with pubs closing farcically early and more issues being caused by people just drinking loads in a short period of time. I think enough is enough, we need to stop being defensive over this. Open up stadiums and venues and let us get on with life. Also I see many people not wearing masks and they seem to be ok so why not make the wearing of PPE optional, give people a choice? [Post edited 4 Oct 2020 19:36]

Wuhan Flu on 20:36 - Oct 4 by 26_Paz | Depends I suppose bit it’s not just for me watching football. It’s a wider debate about how much the liberty of 99% of people is worth |
If you are so keen on defending liberty then I am sure you will want to say thank you to the most vulnerable generation today by doing everything you can to protect them Just bear in mind many of that generation didn’t just have a few months of inconvenience by not be able to watch footie, go to the pub or wearing a face masks For many it was 6 years, for many it was their whole life Perhaps when covid death reach the levels of that generation you can come the internet like a brave little soldier and start bleating about how hard done by you are [Post edited 4 Oct 2020 20:45]

Just think poor old Paz is trying to make some perfectly valid and factually correct comments and the regime use it as excuse to have a go at him. Anyhow the pubs shut in around an hour am now going down the local to sink four pints before being asked to leave. Am sure drinking beer will be frowned upon as well

So any number of deaths is acceptable as long as you and others have "freedom". Possibly one of the worst statements I've seen on the boards in a long time. SB [Post edited 4 Oct 2020 20:46]

Anything in there about long-term effects? Too soon to know how many of those will be life-changing and possible life shortening. Infection rates are being controlled by measures being taken, that's not arguable. If people want to look for the best possible outcome, that's fine. What they don't have the right to do is to put other people at risk who don't wish to be fecked over by someone else's ignorance.

Well that’s a ridiculous statement because it quite evidently has. Whether you think restrictions are proportionate or not is a debate, the government telling you how many people you can socialise with is a restriction placed upon individual freedoms, that’s just a fact.

Nothing there regarding long term effects but what about the long term effects of lock down? Got to get the balance right and it has been highlighted time and time again about the effect lockdown has had and is having on the general population - from people unable to get the urgent health care that they require to the mental health of millions of people, with reports of suicide at extremely high levels.

Yes and I’m have absolutely no idea what relevance that video has to the question of whether being told who you can and can’t socialise with is an infringement on liberty or not.

The chance of death are individual, those numbers are for the general case and don't take into account post-C19 effects of people who have had it (which seem like they could be serious). Table 1. Parameter Values that vary among the five COVID-19 Pandemic Planning Scenarios. The scenarios are intended to advance public health preparedness and planning. They are not predictions or estimates of the expected impact of COVID-19. The parameter values in each scenario will be updated and augmented over time, as we learn more about the epidemiology of COVID-19. Additional parameter values might be added in the future (e.g., population density, household transmission, and/or race and ethnicity). So quite a lot of caveats in there you failed to mention. C19 isn't going to kill everyone, it might not kill more than 1% of people infected but that still a lot of people if you let it run free given it's high infectious. I doubt your table is of any comfort to those who have already lost people or anyone who is lost going forward. If you view is that some have to die so everyone else can go about their business then that is one way of looking at it, it's just not one everyone shares with you. SB
