So yet another weekend has passed with pubs closing farcically early and more issues being caused by people just drinking loads in a short period of time.

I think enough is enough, we need to stop being defensive over this. Open up stadiums and venues and let us get on with life.

Also I see many people not wearing masks and they seem to be ok so why not make the wearing of PPE optional, give people a choice?

Yes and I’m have absolutely no idea what relevance that video has to the question of whether being told who you can and can’t socialise with is an infringement on liberty or not.

You seem to think your freedom has been compromised by being asked to stay indoors for a little while.

I think you’re wrong, you’re not being shot at whilst standing outside your own property. You were just being asked to stay at home, put your feet up, relax, watch some TV.

I really don’t think you know what freedom really is. You take it for granted. You’re free to not condemn BoJo for suggesting that MrsN is a “picaninnie”.

You have never had your freedom compromised or withdrawn. You have just been asked to have a bit of courtesy for your fellow man, to avoid spreading a virus. I know that for someone that agrees with BoJo that having courtesy for your fellow man might be a difficult concept.

It’s just a simple fact that corona restrictions impeded freedom. You’ve dug yourself into a hole by denying that and now you’re trying to deflect your way out of it by bringing up the Boris bit. That’s got absolutely nothing to do with this conversation. I can see what you’re doing, it’s obvious.

Nothing there regarding long term effects but what about the long term effects of lock down?

Got to get the balance right and it has been highlighted time and time again about the effect lockdown has had and is having on the general population - from people unable to get the urgent health care that they require to the mental health of millions of people, with reports of suicide at extremely high levels.

What has also been highlighted time and again is it is those who constantly whine about restrictions are the same people who insist on either flouting them or pushing them to their absolute boundaries.

It is because of this attitude that the thing flares up again making repeat measures necessary.

As soon as this comes about they are the ones crying that it's not fair like fecking weasels.

"We want to do as we like. Oh, why is this now affecting us? Waaaaaaah"

The pattern has been the same since day one.

The chance of death are individual, those numbers are for the general case and don't take into account post-C19 effects of people who have had it (which seem like they could be serious).

Table 1. Parameter Values that vary among the five COVID-19 Pandemic Planning Scenarios. The scenarios are intended to advance public health preparedness and planning. They are not predictions or estimates of the expected impact of COVID-19. The parameter values in each scenario will be updated and augmented over time, as we learn more about the epidemiology of COVID-19. Additional parameter values might be added in the future (e.g., population density, household transmission, and/or race and ethnicity).

So quite a lot of caveats in there you failed to mention. C19 isn't going to kill everyone, it might not kill more than 1% of people infected but that still a lot of people if you let it run free given it's high infectious.

I doubt your table is of any comfort to those who have already lost people or anyone who is lost going forward. If you view is that some have to die so everyone else can go about their business then that is one way of looking at it, it's just not one everyone shares with you.

SB

"C19 isn't going to kill everyone".

No you're right it isn't, as we can all see from the data from the CDC, in the WORSE case scenario it has an over 90% surviveability rate for the over 70s and a 99% surviveability rate for those aged 50 to 69.

You ignored the whole part about caveats didn't you? The ones where the CDC say it doesn't take into account population density, social measures etc?

Where does it say "worst case" in that document? That text doesn't appear anywhere in it. It actually says "best estimate" given the caveats which you've ignored.

Perhaps you could define "freedom"?

I assume that you can buy automatic weapons and randomly shoot people in the street and you object to lockdown 'cos it limits this pastime? I will assume the answer is no... But I guess you could be Texan.

Do you consider not being able to buy automatic weapons and randomly shoot people an indicator that you are not free?

What we face are restrictions designed to protect the majority, so we don't die avoidably... Even if some of the thinking is half added and confused... Oh and they don't apply to the elite.

Don't shoot the messenger my friend, it's from the CDC.

On the right, 'Current Best Estimate'.

Take your pick from the others but they have even higher surviveability rates.

What on earth was all that about?! I suggest restrictions remove more freedom than is justified and suddenly I’m shooting people in the streets?

This virus isn’t going away, we need to learn to live with it. I don’t see why more stuff isn’t open.
As for you masks point, the amount of people who just don’t do it it may as well be optional!

Not sure where you live but around here I’d say 95%+ if not higher are wearing masks indoors all the time.

Maybe that’s why east Cambridgeshire has low levels of infections....... just saying

Really?

Interesting that you don't mind that he misrepresented it as the worst case and ignored the caveats the CDC themselves put above the data.

You just see what you want to see when it agrees with your own viewpoint.

Indeed but none of them are worst case. They are specific to the R value. The one you cited is specific to the current best estimate of the current US conditions.

It's nothing like the worst case. The worst case would be no lockdowns, no distancing and masks and an R around 4 or 5 which is easily possible with C19.

Those figures aren't in the report. You are either misrepresenting the data or you've not understood what it in showing. Happy to accept it's the second one but you can't just take your pick from those scenarios and call it the "worst case".

You can add me to the "pushing them to their absolute bounaries" list.

No matter how draconian the lockdown measures have been, are now or in the future, this virus is here to stay. All the talk of a vaccine soon is frankly bobbins, it will be ages away, if ever.
I will wear a mask where applicable, keep my distance from people i don't know and use hand sanitiser with gay abandon, as are the rules, but.........i will not be prevented from visiting my nearest and dearest again and we are a fair size family.
If that makes me an irresponsible arseh0le, then so be it.
I look forward to lots of sanctimonious horsesh1t in response.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Can argue about the specifics of the numbers all you want but the fact remains that a very small number of the people that get corona die from it

Put a number on it since you're citing economic costs.

Social costs are relevant but is you watching football worth someone else possibly dying?
