That's an interesting interpretation of the thread you posted it on.
I tend to at least try and backup any assertions I make with evidence. You on the other hand play the false equivalency card like it's the end of the debate.
To be honest you're either a particularly bad troll or someone who has some rather large issues when it comes to understanding how opinions and expertise work in the world we live in.

Here is an example of something you have posted which is your opinion but is also clearly a lie:

That "opinion" does not carry equal weight as that of SAGE no matter how many times you say it does. You don't like people challenging your opinion and asking for evidence. It's you who has the problem here, not everyone else.

If you recall, in March, after scientific analysis that doing nothing to combat Covid showed there could be deaths of the magnitude you indicate, there was a lockdown. That stopped possibility of hundreds of thousands dying. Sadly tens of thousands still died, lockdown stopped far worse.
Now we're doing the same again, to prevent the same sort of thing happening.
Are you saying the scientist, epidemiologists and statisticians who do the analysis are wrong? Are we wrong to take steps to, if not eradicate the virus, then minimise the impact? Or are you saying there isn't a virus at all?
Naturally I'm sorry if you've lost your job, but you could argue that's the price you pay for living in an under-regulated capitalist society. |  |

It was an estimate by the Imperial College London following a simulation that those were the kind of figures we could be facing if nothing was done. If nothing was done.
Edit: I should also add, along with others, it is sad news to hear you've lost your job. Hopefully something will be sorted soon.

The way it works is that specialists advise and sometimes make recommendations, as do Civil Servants, and others, depending on the subject matter. SAGE did not shut the country down. They made recommendations based on what they individually and collectively knew and had researched. The government made the decisions, based on their advice and other factors. In principle this is simple. In practice, it can be very complex.
I’m sure the scientists made best guesses with some of this and expressed what may happen (various scenarios), not least because a pandemic of this scale hasn’t happened in this country in 100 years. You’ve got to start somewhere and if you ignore them, whose advice do you take?

I'm sorry you and your friends lost your jobs. I lost mine at the end of September too.
Whilst it is frustrating and worrying, it doesn't change the fact that these actions save lives.
The healthcare personnel are always going to be in this weird situation where the better they do, the more they will be perceived as overreacting.

All people have views. The problem is that these on the right on this site such as airliner, Paz and Hampstead generally come out with stuff that is factually incorrect (see the comments regarding 500,000 deaths), racist (see comments about the Essex cricketer) or supportive of racists, homophobes and misogynists.
If someone could explain to me why the past 10 years of Conservative government has helped the country and how Brexit will be great for us then great, but sadly they can’t.
Whilst I support Labour generally, the response of Corbyn to the anti-semitism issue has been terrible, particularly for someone who has held himself up as a champion of those who suffer racist abuse.
I also was angry at the Luton mayor and councillors who flouted the lockdown earlier in the year and called for them to resign as I called for Cummings to be sacked after he did the same, having made the rules.
Balance is important, but critical analysis of another viewpoint is fair.
My other half is a respiratory nurse and is bang in the front line here and the anti lockdown herd immunity nonsense has to be challenged. So many doctors and nurses have died doing their job already.
You never know when you might need her and that is why you must follow the rules.
Also follow the rules to protect those who have no choice but to deal with the consequences of others action. | | | |
