Lockdown achievements 11:30 - Nov 11 with 4533 views | clive_baker | Has anyone achieved anything in 2020 that they're particularly proud of as a result of having a bit more free time on their hands? Whether it be due to furlough, breaks from employment or saving time on a commute? I told myself in "lockdown 1" that I would use the 10 hours per week I'll get back from commuting to learn French but it hasn't really got going. I was sh1t at it at school and I still am now. Without immediate gratification I tend to lose interest quickly and haven't given it the attention it needed over summer. Turns out it wasn't not having enough time that's prevented me doing it for the past 10 years worth of new years resolutions :) [Post edited 11 Nov 2020 11:31]

Grade 8 trumpet sounds like an insult, as in, "Dollers, you Grade 8 trumpet!"

Lockdown achievements on 11:49 - Nov 11 by StokieBlue | I was thinking about this earlier and the answer is "not really". I have not been cycling as much as I probably should given I don't have to do the commute to work and I meant to do a few online courses but haven't done it. I have been working on my cooking a bit though which has been good. Having a bit more time to make more complicated things is nice. SB |
Oh Stokie. The real achievement is all the friends we made along the way.

Lockdown achievements on 15:16 - Nov 11 with 1385 views | WeWereZombies | Last Thursday I climbed Blá Bheinn: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/skye/blabheinn.shtml My second Munro of the year (first was Bruach na Frithe in August) and for a while I was almost resigned to never managing a Munro again - just under two years ago I lay unconscious at about two thousand feet for a couple of hours, then walked around all night unable to find my car, when I finally did I crashed it and wrote it off later in the day, this was followed by eight nights in hospital. So I am really feeling back in the game at the moment, even if my muscles are still aching six days later.

Wow - but silver linings - all of that must have been really good preparation for the even worse trauma of ITFC dropping into L1 and staying there

Lockdown achievements on 20:06 - Nov 11 with 1332 views | Mullet | I think you mean you were "merde" at it old boy. I got to read for my own enjoyment again and have kept it up sporadically. I've not had the best year once the summer went by (who has?) but I did put some hours in on the guitar and got back some of my old flair for it. The only other thing was 10,000 kettlebell swings in a month and packing on a bit of strength, but I think that's regressed again unfortunately.

Lockdown achievements on 00:31 - Nov 12 with 1293 views | FoD_Blue | I started brewing my own beer. From the money I saved through not commuting, I got an all-in-one all grain brewing kit. I am currently on my 9th batch of beer. I have tried all different styles and so far all of them have been very drinkable. Current brew that I have on the go is an 11.2% ABV Imperial Stout. I also built a Kegerator (an old fridge that now has beer taps on the front and two kegs of CO2 pressurised beer inside) to serve the beer from. It's just a shame that I can't invite people round to enjoy the beer with me. Strangely I have failed to lose any weight. However I have not put any on either. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Lockdown achievements on 01:46 - Nov 12 with 1275 views | The_Romford_Blue | Not a literal achievement as such but I brought myself back from a really dark place I was in for most of this year. There was points when I was confident I wouldn’t see the other side so I’m taking that as a win. Onwards and upwards. Brilliant idea for a thread btw. Great to see so many positive posts.

Lockdown achievements on 10:51 - Nov 12 with 1193 views | BlueBlueBluex2 | Have passed 6 exams in my chosen field of employment that should see me in good stead. I look favourably on anyone in my team that has attempted to better themselves with the time they invariably save since March, even if it is picking up another language.

Lockdown achievements on 13:31 - Nov 11 by factual_blue | Were you scared by the dinosaurs? (I assume they're still there). |
I love the dinosaurs! Yes they're still there - the oldest attempt anywhere in the world to model extinct animals as full-scale, three-dimensional, active creatures from fossil remains. They've been here in the park for almost 170 years!

Chin up Rommers. The bit before you were born and the bit after you die are really, really long, so might as well make the best of the small window of being here! And that (bringing yourself back from a dark place) is a literal achievement, especially at such a young age when you probably have less experience of such things. So yeah, well done, onwards and upwards. There's an answer to everything, it's just a question of finding it.

Lockdown achievements on 11:43 - Nov 12 with 1162 views | Cotty | I took up the piano again after not really playing it much since leaving home 18 years ago. I’ve played almost every day and have 2-3 pieces up to a reasonable standard. Excellent for mental health! I also reckon my 3 year old has done well over 300km on his balance bike. But my maths might be a bit off, weirder things have happened.

Cooking for me too. I actually really enjoy it, although I rarely cook without a glass of wine, so that helps with the pleasure. Now find myself googling recipes and watching online cooking videos. I also grew a lot more veg and herbs this year, which my meals are benefitting from.

Lockdown achievements on 12:00 - Nov 12 with 1119 views | vilanovablue | I haven't achieved much during either lockdown but one thing that has happened has been reconnecting with my sister and mum who both live in France. We are now communicating more than we ever did before and I take that as a real positive.

11.2% bloody hell. A few pints of that and you'll wake up feeling like you've had a COVID vaccine.

That's great, glad you're enjoying it - I find cooking both fun and relaxing. Having a glass of wine on hand is also an excellent way to go about it. Just took the pomme anna out of the oven so it can be pressed before tonight's dinner. Growing your own veg and herbs is also excellent. SB

Pommes Anna? How many of your five a day is that worth?
