Replacement “Free Lunch†boxes that have replaced £30 vouchers 20:10 - Jan 11 with 8005 views | ElderGrizzly | The cost is about £5.22. For 10 days of food. Have the Government done what the Government do again and pay a private company a fortune for next to nothing?

Imagine looking at that photo, evaluating it, and not only thinking that it's defensible, but that the party who came up with it deserves your vote and your membership fees. That person is seriously damaged.

Replacement “Free Lunch” boxes that have replaced £30 vouchers on 23:30 - Jan 11 by monytowbray | If there was ever an intelligence test for the right to vote implemented, you’d lose your right to vote. Honestly, how can you have ANY opinion on poverty without the basic facts? Imagine getting advice on plumbing from a mate who doesn’t know how plumbing works? Or asking someone who’s never used the internet to build you a website? Mind you, it’s never stopped the Tories hiring policy. |
Is what I’ve said wrong then? Is it not linked to things like rent and offset against any income?

Where have I defended it? I said it was ‘absolutely ridiculous’ and ‘needed fixing as soon a possible’. Why do you always feel the need to twist things?

If you're going to obfuscate, I'll rephrase the original question. Without Googling, what do you think the maximum UC entitlement is for a typical single parent with no underlying medical conditions - essentially, the 'income based' element of UC.

Ok, so I wasn’t wrong. In terms of maximum, I genuinely don’t know, but I would have thought it would be somewhere in the region of £500 / £600?

A single parent under 25 with a child of school age will get a maximum entitlement of £623.97. How would you like to feed and clothe yourself and a child, as well as incurring all of life's other costs, on that sort of money?

In normal times the cronyism/corruption would be as big a story as the expenses scandal from a few years ago. The company involved shoukd put this right imidiately or have their contract cancelled and given to a group like the Trussell Trust.

You said if it was for ten days, implying that you believe it would be enough if it's for less than 10 days. Looking at what's provided, honestly tell me how many days you think that'll last with 3 meals a day?

Small point of order - these are replacement for school dinners (or not) so is only supposed to cover 10 meals - 1 a day, Mon to Fri for 2 weeks. Still a joke clearly.

My take: 1. 'Tories demonstrate inept ability in contracting a supplier' shocker. 2. 'Business demonstrates profit ahead of all else' shocker. 3. The poorest are the ones fcked over by the above, shocker. Why anyone who's been paying attention for the last 20 years would be shocked, heaven knows.

For all their talk about being the party of business, most of this lot would bankrupt a private company in a matter of weeks. I would say it's down to stupidity, but it's just blatant cronyism, isn't it? We used to mock other countries for being this corrupt, and now we're just as bad. 2021 and the UK is a banana republic. Joy. It would be funny if, as you say, it wasn't the poorest in our society who are paying the price.

It's blown up big time since last night. There are loads of examples of the pathetic packages people have been receiving. You never know whether all are genuine of course, but some are pitiful - like some loose tinned tuna in a bag, food wrapped in money bags, half a piece of fruit or veg wrapped in clingfilm. I don't know what can be done, but it's disgusting profiteering. The Govt fecked up the voucher scheme in the spring and now they've fecked up this (for the end users, the private providers will be doing very nicely with our money). Procurement doesn't seem to be their strong point.

It's terrible that you are running Britain down and not getting behind your country. Great Britain is NOT a banana republic. We are better than that. As the photo clearly demonstrates, we are a two bananas and a tin of beans republic.

What are you talking about? I said if it’s correct that this is what has been provided for 10 school meals then it’s ridiculous. I never said it would be enough for less than 10 days, agains, that’s something you’ve made up. Looking at it I’d say 2/3 days tops

Replacement “Free Lunch” boxes that have replaced £30 vouchers on 11:26 - Jan 12 with 1613 views | JakeITFC | This is what happens when the absolute cocks who say things like 'they're spending these vouchers on booze and cigarettes' get listened to. It's a nice summary of where we as a country - awful opinions like that are emboldened, populist policies come into appease them and then in the delivery the absolute crooks in charge cart it off to the private sector and £30 of valuable money to feed kids becomes a bit of carrot and cheese in a coinbag. Horrifying.
