My brother in law has had a multitude of addiction problems over the years (sex, gambling, drugs, drink), so the thing I have come to understand about addiction is that I can never really understand it, but I do know it is an insidious beast and the effort required to tame it is beyond anything I think I could ever do, so nothing but respect to you. |  |

One is often replaced by another. Plenty of the professionals I've spoken to have advised me to find a productive outlet for my 'addictive personality'. I'm not convinced this is healthy, personally, but if there's a choice between gambling and something else to be obsessive with, I'll pick the alternative any day. | |

I only stopped because my financial situation had become completely untenable. I was in a lot of debt and the house of cards fell down. This, coupled with my partner's gradual suspicions being realised. Not an inspiring story up to that point, unfortunately, but I took responsibility from then on. Debt free last November. | |
