....who wrote the excellent article in there last week.

Rich from Blue Monday podcast has interviewed him and pod will drop in the usual places and YouTube at 6pm.....really interesting, and JW seems adamant that there is something in this talk of takeover or something along those lines.....well worth a listen

Club does own the stadium, just not the land it's on.

What happens to the training ground, that is now owned by ME rather than the club, if he does sell?

Are there any protections on the use of that land?

Great listen. Interesting points on the academy. Maybe a restructure of the academy is needed like what’s just happened at Sunderland.

The academy has been neglected for years. The club no longer has any sort of scouting set-up, in fact, so recruitment - arguably the most important aspect of any club - is suffering at all levels.
In Bobby Robson’s time it was the youth system that was the most important cog. Bobby only bought players, on average, at a rate of one for every season he was in charge, and with so many big-money sales we were even able to declare an annual profit.
So much has been neglected in Evans’ time in charge that we no longer have young players who look like being sold on for large fees. The last one was Darren Bent way back in 2005, a damning statistic if ever there was one.

Part of the joy of going to an all day conference was piling in coffee and Danish pastries all day. I'm not sure I like the future.

The best ones also involve a decent meal, with copious amounts of wine, followed by ending to in the nearest pub. Sadly that kind of thing didn’t feature much in my current job even before the last year.

Football is a small industry. Ironically, my source isn't even an Ipswich fan, more so someone with a nostalgic respect for the club for our past achievements.
I live in the South West, so I'm fairly sure it's come from Ashton's side of things.

Interesting. I remain sceptical, but in fairness that's my natural state.

Indeed, the roll call of American owners hadn't been a great success story, Randy Lerner, Glazers, Kroenke, Hicks and Gillette, if you ask the fans of all those connected, the response would be lukewarm at best.

I think the only one that has been remotely competent has been Fenway group.

I have a friend that works for an arm of ME, and from what he's said to me they are anything but in crisis. I'd actually asked him about his job security knowing who he worked for and he seemed to feel that overall the ME group had actually done well out of what has happened over the last year.

No big ticket events to sell, sure, but they were ahead of the curve with a lot of online conferences and training and had the capital to be able to solidify that position, at least that was the impression he left me with.

I atually thought the pandemic would be disastrous for us due to ME struggling, actually I don't think that's the case at all.

I was surprised that White said all that in the interview. He presumably knows as little as most as to where Evans wealth sits.

Evans has hundreds of millions of assets and those assets will be earning him significant money standing still. Look at your pension pots everybody - a well managed one would have had a decent year. He hasn’t stopped using his private jet just yet!

His businesses are all run about as lean as they can be. There’s no interest payments anywhere so whilst money isn’t coming in, it’s far from a disaster and he’d have ridden it taking advantage of furlough and other schemes and laying off staff in certain locations I expect.

Also worth noting that it’s a myth that global events have stopped altogether. China isn’t far off normal in that respect and has been for months now (a massive market) and the events companies are picking up again in the US.

If he’s selling it won’t be because he can’t afford it. He wouldn’t be carrying a 50 person squad, turning down money for players if that was the case.

I would be amazed if any deal went through that didn't include the freehold ownership of the training ground.

I'd question why the Telegraph haven't run a story if he has enough info on the rumoured takeover. I'm still sceptical. Still not found anyone with a Town connection that seems to know about it.

I also certainly don't think PL's future is dependent on a takeover. I'm still where I was the other day, whatever his mood on Saturday, it's not going to be long before there's a change now.

Interesting to see how others view us, what the wider perception of the state of the club in context of other situations. He makes a good point about it being atypical, not someone syphoning out cash in the Bolton manner.

On that aspect of it, I think it's notable that money was still being injected in January, so despite ME's general parsimony over recent seasons, the taps haven't been turned off, which you would imagine they would be if his businesses were in crisis or anything like that.

Thought the bit about the academy and judging it on England call-ups was a little harsh in an era in which players get poached at 15,16. In other eras we'd still have Ben Knight, of course, and there might be others that we'd have recruited in previous eras that went to cat one clubs. Agree with Rich that Steve McGavin was a loss on that front, is at Villa now incidentally, moved on from Norwich.

But it is true that while we've had lots of players that become regulars in the first team or the squad, the last big sale was Wickham and before that Darren Bent.

Wickham doesn’t really count as one of our own, though, does he? He only transferred from the Reading academy to ours when his father had to move with his army role to Colchester.

Will fans really worry that they make money out of the club , as long as they put money in to get success ( promotion s) which ultimately leads to them making money . Let’s not kid ourselves, football is now only about money .

So having listened to the podcast ( 23td and 28minx especially) it dies indeed seem that there iS a potential buyer .

I said last week Evans had been hit badly by vivid and if he died my look to sell off a complete loss making section of his business interests ( ITFC), now , then he never will. But the podcast also identified where the real problem lies ( Evans , which we all knew anyway), of more specifically the nature of the problem . ( he wants to run everything himself ) .

With that in mind you have to feel sorry for the previous managers ...... and it also underlines what I was told by Mogga’s father in law ( that Moggs would never entertain managing Town whilst Evans is the owner )

Every owner sets out to that.

We need to be sure that they have the means to do it, not a bunch of blaggers with borrowing massive amounts of money.

I’d agree totally with that . ITFC is not top of his priory list given the effects of CoVid . He’s had his little dabble in owning a professional football club . Practically destroyed it snd is hopefully now about to walk away .

Whether the take over bid is successful- well that’s a whole new chapter in our history isn’t it.

Does it have to be better? Football is littered with clubs that have oversretched themselves and paid the price after an intial feel good period, we can probably count among them.

Would a couple of season back in the Prem be worth going pop further down the line? That's the risk.

Takeover is 100% in progress. I work with someone who is a former Championship coach and has a football scouting/analytics business. Via my contact I was told last Tuesday that the deal is making significant progress and likely to be announced next month.

I wonder if the fact that Jim White is an Oxford supporter has anything to do with him knowing about this - given that he will probably have links with Ashton from his time as CEO at Oxford
